He began his career as special assistant to the deputy mayor of the City of Washington, D.C. from 1985 to 1986. Concurrent to these responsibilities, he worked as the assistant to the village manager of Park Forest, Illinois from 1986 to 1988. He served as a senior consultant at Erwin France and Associates from 1988 to 1989. Between 1989 and 1995, he established himself as the manager of the Chicago Housing Authority.

Mr. Walker continued his career as the program officer of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation of Chicago from 1995 to 2004. As an executive director, he contributed to the Northway Community Trust of Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2004 to 2012 and the Network of Woodlawn from 2012 to 2013. He was active as the interim executive director at Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs from 2014 to 2016. He has garnered a stellar reputation as principal consultant at WW Strategies LLC since 2015.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Walker pursued an education at Cleveland State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1978. He concluded his studies at the American University, graduating with a Master of Public Administration in public administration, with a concentration in urban management, in 1984. Beyond his responsibilities within the field, he has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He held executive and leadership roles with Habitat for Humanity Chicago, Windy City Habitat for Humanity, Heartland Democracy, the Greater Twin Cities United Way, the Project for Pride in Living, AccountAbility Minnesota, and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. In the immediate future, he intends to continue working with institutions and projects that promote equality of opportunities for all.
