Dr. Harmon has excelled since 2012 at Southern California Edison as an assessment consultant, an advisor of organizational development, a senior advisor of business readiness, and a senior advisor of operational excellence. His research on leadership, psychological safety, safety climate, and workplace culture contributes to advancing organizational effectiveness by informing innovative strategies in organizational development. These strategies have been instrumental in fostering a workplace culture that promotes inclusion, continuous improvement, operational agility, and environmental stewardship. Under Dr. Harmon’s leadership, Southern California Edison has launched leading edge programs aimed at enhancing employee engagement and driving sustainable business practices, such as designing and implementing the Values Ambassador Program, Environmental Culture Transformation, Enterprise Change Management, Edison Leadership Model, and Edison Competency Model to name a few.
Dr. Harmon began his career at Elmira College as an information technology help desk consultant from 2005 to 2008. He worked as a counseling and psychological services graduate assistant at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (now Pennsylvania Western University) from 2008 to 2009. Concurrently, he served as a psychology intern at Warren State Hospital and a clinical therapist at Allegany Rehabilitation Associates, Inc. in 2010. Dr. Harmon continued his career at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (now The Chicago School) since 2010, having worked as a ConCISE Consultant, a registrar assistant, a research assistant, a teaching assistant, an assistant adjunct professor, senior adjunct professor, and co-chair of the University Adjunct Advisor Board. He has remained active at APAW Business Services as a senior professional coach and a principal consultant since 2021. He has found additional success as an adjunct professor at the University at Albany Massry School of Business since 2024. Driven by a passion for unlocking human potential, Dr. Harmon’s work is fueled by the belief that organizational success is rooted in the well-being and development of its people.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Harmon pursued an education at Elmira College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology and psychology in 2008. He continued his academic efforts at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania obtaining a Master of Arts in clinical psychology in 2010. He concluded his studies at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, graduating with a Master of Arts in industrial and organizational psychology in 2012 and a PhD in business psychology in 2020. Dr. Harmon’s academic foundation in biology and psychology was the bedrock upon which he sculpted his expertise in clinical and business psychology, culminating in a Ph.D. that bridges the gap between theory and practice. His diverse education, spanning the realms of biology, psychology, and business, has endowed Dr. Harmon with a multifaceted perspective that informs his innovative approach to organizational development. This rich academic tapestry has not only broadened his intellectual horizons but has also empowered him to devise strategies that are as scientifically rigorous as they are empathetically crafted, making him an exceptionally effective leader in his field.
In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Harmon remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. A staunch advocate for evidence-based practices, Dr. Harmon’s active involvement with leading psychological associations underscores his commitment to advancing the field through rigorous research and ethical practice. He was a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the Division for Quantitative and Qualitative Methods, the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, and the Society of Consulting Psychology. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was recognized as an adjunct professor of the year by the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and presented with the Horton Humanitarian Award by Southern California Edison.
