Jerald “Jerry” Czarnecki has dedicated his career to serving his community and advocating for those in need. Earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Alma College in 1991 and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University in 2001, Mr. Czarnecki embarked on a 27-year journey as a teacher in Michigan’s public school system. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated a commitment to mentoring students and fellow educators, supervising departments, and implementing innovative instructional methods.

Mr. Czarnecki’s passion for community service led him to transition into nonprofit leadership roles, where he could continue making a difference on a broader scale. Since 2023, he has served as the executive director of Gabriel’s Horn Homeless Shelter in Indiana, overseeing operations, finance, staff management, and client acquisition. Prior to this, he held various leadership positions, including executive director of Family Promise of Porter County, talent and community engagement specialist at the YMCA of Portage Township Inc., and city manager of Hastings, Michigan.

In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Czarnecki has been actively involved in academia, serving as an adjunct professor at Davenport University and teaching at Kelloggsville Public Schools, Kentwood Public Schools, and Ionia Public Schools. His achievements include being a finalist for the Top Three Michigan Teacher of the Year Award in 2011.

Looking ahead, Mr. Czarnecki envisions Gabriel’s Horn Homeless Shelter for Women and Children flourishing and aims to provide consulting services to nonprofits, leveraging his extensive experience to support organizational growth and success. Throughout his career, he has emphasized the importance of learning from others and surrounding oneself with intelligent individuals to succeed in the nonprofit sector.
