Dr. Eric Mbunwe, quality engineer at Integra LifeScience, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the sciences and medical equipment manufacturing.
With over a decade of experience to his credit, Dr. Mbunwe has carved out a distinguished career in molecular biology and quality assurance. He is currently excelling as an instructor at Clark University and a quality technical writer at Integra LifeSciences since 2022. In these roles, he oversees various divisions and collaborates on projects, documentation, manufacturing, and engineering, leveraging his extensive expertise in genetics, diabetes, immunology, and preventive and infectious diseases. He transitioned from a career in science to quality assurance, wishing to move from an academic environment to one more industry-focused. He aspires to contribute to the development of products that can directly benefit patients. Prior to his current role, he served as a quality assurance specialist at Resilience from 2021 to 2022, ensuring the highest standards of quality in the company’s processes. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Framingham State University from 2020 to 2021, contributing to research and education in molecular biology. Additionally, he was a benefits coordinator representative at American Income Life Insurance Company, Serur Agencies in 2021.
Dr. Mbunwe’s career began with significant roles in research and academia. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, department of genetics, from 2016 to 2019, and a research scientist and independent contractor at the same institution from 2013 to 2016. He coordinated the USAID-PREDICT Project Laboratory for Metabiota in Cameroon from 2015 to 2016. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education at the University of Buea, earning a bachelor’s degree in 2002. He continued his academic efforts at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, obtaining a Master of Science in medical and pharmaceutical in 2008. He went on to earn a PhD in Immunogenetics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel from 2008 to 2013, laying the foundation for his distinguished career in molecular biology and quality assurance. Recently, he continued to amass his education, earning a Master of Business Administration in biotechnology from Framingham State University in 2022.
In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Mbunwe is a leader at the First Baptist Church of Fitchburg, serves on the Board of Trustees at Fitchburg Public Library, and is involved with the Martin Luther King Coalition. He has maintained his involvement in professional communities as a member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering and a past member of the American Diabetes Association. He is particularly proud of his significant contributions to the field of diabetes testing, particularly in developing patient monitoring systems used in clinics. Additionally, he played a vital role in the remediation work undertaken by his former company to restart manufacturing operations after a shutdown. Looking ahead, he aims to make significant contributions in the fields of microbiology, quality assurance, quality control, product development, and research and development in the coming years. He also feels a strong pull towards academia, while his skills and passion for knowledge make him a perfect fit for the educational environment.
