With nearly three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Verniero has established a successful career in business development and strategic planning, specializing in business strategy and architecture, digital solutions, digital commerce, digital communication, and digital organizational transformations. He currently excels as the senior vice president of digital solutions and business architecture at Chubb, a position he has held since 2017. His experience also includes serving as the senior vice president of IT strategy and business operations at Chubb from 2013 to 2017, vice president of enterprise IT strategy at Chubb from 2010 to 2013, vice president of business planning and development at Chubb from 2006 to 2010, vice president of partner operations at Homesite Insurance from 1999 to 2006, and assistant vice president of corporate marketing and strategic development at Chubb from 1995 to 1999. He has also dedicated his time as an alumni volunteer and student mentor at Stillman School of Business, Seton Hall University since 2023, and at Delbarton School since 2017.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Verniero laid a solid educational foundation by earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in communication and media studies from Seton Hall University in 1984, a Master of Business Administration in marketing and economics from Seton Hall University in 1993, and a certification in computer science from The Chubb Institute. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, he spent approximately five years working in IT while pursuing his master’s degree at night. Upon completing his master’s degree, he joined the chief information officer’s team at Chubb, focusing on strategy and organizational design. He later transitioned into marketing and distribution management. When Chubb launched a new division, he was asked to lead it due to his digital and startup experience. In the early days of the Internet, the board challenged him to develop a product, create the technology and marketing, and establish a direct-to-consumer offering. He had to learn everything from the ground up and successfully sold approximately 500 policies.
Mr. Verniero attributes his success to his family background, as he is the second member of his family to graduate from college and considers himself a lifelong learner. These factors provided him with opportunities, exposure, and engagement with diverse people and ideas. He also credits his broad range of experiences for shaping his career. In the coming years, he aspires to ensure his children have the opportunities he had, allowing them to attend their desired schools and pursue activities that bring them joy. Personally, he hopes to explore new avenues outside of insurance while leveraging his existing skills and experience. In advising up-and-coming professionals, he emphasizes the importance of not fearing lateral or downward moves if they expand one’s experience and knowledge, and the value of surrounding oneself with people who are smarter. He believes that true leadership involves adaptability, as the speed of business, technology, and consumer behavior requires constant learning and nimbleness in processes and technology.
