Her experience includes serving as an educator and testing administrator at John Bowne High School from 1984 to 2009, working with the Women’s Issues and Addiction Clinic in California for six years, and working as a commercial artist in the advertising industry. She also dedicates her time to the Presidents Co-op and Condo Council, as well as local animal rescues and animal groups. Laying a solid educational foundation, she completed coursework at Los Angeles City College in 1974, earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Queens College, City University of New York, in 1991, a Master of Science in education from Queens College in 1994, and a postgraduate degree in administration from Queens College. She also completed coursework in computer programming at the New York Institute of Technology and earned a certification in computer programming from Queensborough Community College.
Mrs. Sorensen has made a significant impact throughout her teaching career by inspiring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. Even after 25 years, she maintains strong connections with her former students and continues to witness their success in life. She credits her achievements to her unwavering perseverance and has learned the importance of treating people with respect. Her students were aware that she highly valued respect for one another, and whenever they had an issue, they would discuss it openly. This principle is also crucial in the business world, where approaching others with humility and relevance is essential. In the coming years, she aims to further develop Hyde Park Gardens as president, striving for greater success and continuous improvement. In her personal time, she enjoys playing tennis, running, being outdoors, hiking, and rescuing animals.
