Edward Grinnan, editor-in-chief and vice president at Guideposts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in writing.
With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Grinnan has established a successful career as a writer, specializing in ghostwriting, inspirational storytelling, and memoir writing. He began his tenure with Guideposts in 1999, where he currently excels as editor-in-chief and vice president. Guideposts, founded by Norman Vincent Peale in 1945, reaches approximately three million readers per issue and has always been one of the most widely circulated magazines in the country, with a paid circulation of over a million subscribers. His experience also includes roles as a freelance writer and editor, a reporter for a progressive weekly newspaper in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and working as a manager and deckhand/gateman on ore boats in the Great Lakes. Some of his notable works include “A Journey of Faith: A Mother’s Alzheimer’s, A Son’s Love, and His Search for Answers,” “Always By My Side: Life Lessons from Millie and All the Dogs I’ve Loved,” and “The Promise of Hope: 9 Keys to Powerful Personal Change.” In recognition of his contributions to writing and his support of 12-step groups, he will be honored at a dinner event in November.
Laying a solid educational foundation for his success, Mr. Grinnan earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a specialization in journalism from the University of Michigan in 1975, graduating with honors, and a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting from Yale University in 1982, where he was awarded the prestigious Hopwood Award for Major Drama and a playwriting fellowship at the Yale School of Drama. He has been an active member of the American Society of Magazine Editors and a former judge for the National Magazine Awards. Reflecting on his path, he takes great pride in delivering a message of hope to millions through Guideposts magazine, with a particularly meaningful moment being when a reader shared that having a story featured in the magazine was listed as a milestone in their father’s memorial, underscoring the deep connection the magazine has with its audience. He attributes his success to a combination of his skills, determination, and the support of those who have guided him along the way. As he contemplates retirement, he feels confident about the transition, having mentored the next generation of leaders at Guideposts, believing it is time for them to take the reins and continue the organization’s mission. Looking to the future, he is open to pursuing new writing projects for diverse audiences and exploring consulting opportunities.
