An expert in identifying and analyzing complex situations and emerging technologies, Mr. Gonzalez has drawn significant success in his field. His extensive background includes a tenure of over three decades managing multinational, multibillion-dollar publicly listed corporations and multimillion-dollar private start-up ventures in various industries, including natural resources, mineral processing, renewable and traditional energy, biotechnology and agribusiness.
Among his previous positions, Mr. Gonzalez excelled as the managing director of Batuta Capital Advisors LLC from 2016 to 2020, the director and chief executive officer of Biofields SAPI de CV between 2007 and 2015 and the Southern Copper Corporation from 2005 to 2007, and the director of finance and administration at Grupo México between 1999 and 2005. He began his career with McKinsey & Company, a strategy and management consulting firm based in New York City, where he rose from a business analyst in 1994 to an associate from 1997 to 1999.
In addition to his full-time commitments, Mr. Gonzalez served on the board of managers and as the company chair at Algenol, an industrial biotechnology company based in Fort Myers, Florida, between 2011 and 2016.
Highly educated, Mr. Gonzalez holds a Bachelor of Science in economics and political science from the University of Arizona in Tucson since 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in finance and strategic management from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago since 1997. His education has been foundational to his success and tenure in his field.
As a testament to Mr. Gonzalez’s and the team’s work, the U.S. Department of Energy recently selected Urbix Inc. to enter into award negotiation for $125 million of funding to advance the construction of its commercial-scale graphite processing facility.
