Brian F. Wruble, retired general partner at Odyssey Partners LP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in investment management.
Mr. Wruble has led a long and distinguished career in investment management that began during the 1960s and concluded in 2007 after over a decade as the founder and general partner at Odyssey Partners LP, a successful hedge fund in New York City. Since then, he has remained engaged in various capacities, giving back his time and expertise to several leading organizations. Among these ventures, Mr. Wruble serves as an independent director and audit committee member of the Special Value Opportunity Fund, as a member of the investment management advisory council member of the Zurich Insurance Company Ltd., and as an independent director and audit committee member of The Jackson Laboratory.
Early in his career, Mr. Wruble worked in engineering with Sperry Gyroscope Company, beginning in 1966. He later joined Smith Barney, Harris Upham & Company (now Morgan Stanley Wealth Management) as a vice president and co-manager of fundamental equity research from 1977 to 1999. In 1999, Mr. Wruble was acquired by Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States (now Equitable Holdings Inc.), where he excelled as the executive vice president and chief investment officer for over 10 years. Concurrently, he founded, chaired and served as the president and chief executive officer of Equitable Capital Management Corporation between 1985 and 1992. Moreover, Mr. Wruble garnered success as the president and chief executive officer of Delaware Group of Mutual Funds and Delaware Management Holdings Inc. from 1992 to 1995.
Highly educated to support his career, Mr. Wruble received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1965 and 1966, respectively. He also earned a Master of Science in finance, with distinction, from New York University in 1976. Furthermore, Mr. Wruble holds credentials as a chartered financial analyst through the CFA Institute.
Active professionally, Mr. Wruble has been affiliated with several leading industry-related organizations, such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Association for Investment Management and Research (now CFA Institute), where he also served as a governor. Beyond his work-related activities, he has been active civically. Most notably, he was affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) for over 30 years. Recognized as a leading global center for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry based in Princeton, New Jersey, the higher education institute is committed to advancing knowledge across science and humanities. Having served as a trustee, treasurer and finance committee chair for the IAS in 1992, Mr. Wruble was later named chair emeritus in 2019.
Mr. Wruble was also active in his local community, including as the vice chair of the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys board. He was also a qualified volunteer with the American National Red Cross for the Greater New York region and served as the vice chair of the Boys Choir of Harlem.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wruble was involved in numerous successful projects. As an engineer, he contributed to the design, construction and early at-sea activities of the United States Navy’s NR-1 submarine. This vessel is recognized as the world’s first and only nuclear-powered deep-ocean engineering and research submarine. During his 40-year tenure in investment management, he oversaw a portfolio of $80 billion in stocks, bonds, venture capital, private equity and real estate.
Mr. Wruble remains involved by managing his and his family’s assets and looks forward to continually giving back his time and expertise to various for-profit and nonprofit organizations. He attributes much of his success to his parents, who were role models throughout his younger years.
