Since 2000, he has been the principal of Thompson | Edwards LLC, Architects, in New Haven, Connecticut, where he manages all tasks in-house and oversees remote employees. Mr. Thompson’s leadership and innovative approach have been instrumental in the firm’s continued success.
Throughout his distinguished tenure in the industry, Mr. Thompson has leveraged his expertise as an architect, interior designer and certified planner. His work has included both project design and development, with a significant portfolio that encompasses municipalities, publicly assisted housing and housing authorities, planning and building departments, and more.
Before launching his thriving architectural firm, Mr. Thompson contributed his expertise to the State of Connecticut. He also shared his knowledge as a professor at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut, for 10 years. Mr. Thompson’s commitment to education and mentorship has been evident in his efforts to guide young candidates and students pursuing architectural licensure.
Mr. Thompson’s academic foundation included acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in architecture from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1963 and a Master of Architecture in architecture planning from the prestigious Yale University’s Yale School of Architecture in New Haven in 1969. These academic achievements laid the groundwork for Mr. Thompson’s successful career, complemented by his architecture license, which he obtained in 1972.
Beyond his educational accomplishments, Mr. Thompson proudly served his country. His military service as a captain in the United States Navy taught him a disciplined approach to leadership and project management that has been instrumental throughout his career.
A proud fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 2018, Mr. Thompson’s professional affiliations also include membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners and the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards. His dedication to the field is further exemplified by his service on the examination committee for the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards.
Mr. Thompson’s civic involvement extends to serving on the board of directors for the Pilgrim’s Harbor Owners Association. He was also instrumental with the Connecticut Architecture Foundation, where he served on the board of directors and is recognized as a past president.
Throughout his career, Mr. Thompson has been honored with several prestigious accolades, including Design Awards from AIA Connecticut and the American Institute of Architects for Camp Laurel in Lebanon, Connecticut. He also received recognition from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.
