For the past 20 years, Mr. Kohlenbeck has established himself as a trusted figure in the field of security and loss prevention. His professional life started in 2005 as the manager of corporate safety and security for Liz Claiborne, where he oversaw security for physical locations around the world. In 2018, Mr. Kohlenbeck joined fashion retailer New York & Company as the director of corporate security and loss prevention. Dedicated to this role for nearly eight years, he collaborated with corporate leadership at the company and implemented security policy guidelines, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, workplace violence prevention, forensic investigation processes, security audits and more.
Having proven himself capable of managing multimillion-dollar operating budgets at New York & Company, Mr. Kohlenbeck was brought on by Footlocker Inc. as a senior manager of security and fraud in 2016. Among his many achievements in this capacity, he helped design and implement security and loss prevention technology for use across a global chain of 3500-plus stores. Some of the security improvements to Footlocker Inc. introduced by Mr. Kohlenbeck included asset tracking/management systems, cutting-edge video systems and biometric devices. He also managed security at the organization’s corporate office locations in the United States and Europe.
The culmination of his impressive career thus far, Mr. Kohlenbeck took on the position of head of branch security strategy and senior manager of global workplace services enterprise security at Capital One in 2018. He has led the company in implementing the latest and most effective security processes and technology, focusing on risk mitigation, threat management, and compliance with best practices. Mr. Kohlenbeck has demonstrated a commitment to Capital One’s well-being, utilizing his years of experience to set up the company’s security processes in the most cost-effective way possible while maintaining a dependably high standard of quality.
Mr. Kohlenbeck has supported his performance in his professional life with a strong education. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and homeland security from Saint Leo University, graduating summa cum laude in 2014. Subsequently, Mr. Kohlenbeck earned a Master of Arts in information assurance and cybersecurity from Regis University in 2018. He has further backed up his credentials with continued education. Mr. Kohlenbeck is certified in basic and advanced interviewing and interrogation by Wicklander Zulawski & Associates, as a first responder by the American Heart Association, and in mental health first aid. He is particularly proud of receiving certification as a protection professional by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) in 2017, noting the challenge of earning this key designation.
As a commitment to staying updated on the latest trends and technologies in the world of security, Mr. Kohlenbeck has been active with several industry-related organizations. He maintains membership in Delta Epsilon Sigma, the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society, the American Society of Industrial Security, and Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. In 2017, Mr. Kohlenbeck reached a major milestone when he was asked to chair the membership committee and co-chair the physical security committee for the American Bankers Association. This esteemed role allows him to have a broader influence in his field, collaborating with 20 of the largest banks in America to determine best security practices.
Beyond his primary vocation, Mr. Kohlenbeck is dedicated to civic advocacy. He has participated in fundraising events and walks for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 2013. In 2019, Mr. Kohlenbeck joined the board of directors for Downtown Visions, a nonprofit group that promotes public and private sector development of downtown Wilmington, Delaware. Though he eventually had to step back from this role, he is proud of his contributions to this cause, especially as someone from a working-class background. In recognition of his deeds, Mr. Kohlenbeck is a two-time winner of the Philadelphia Award. He credits his parents for his success, recognizing the strong work ethic and principles of honesty they instilled in him.
Outside of his career, Mr. Kohlenbeck is a loving husband and father to two children. He spends his free time hiking, hunting and riding mountain bikes. As he moves forward, Mr. Kohlenbeck aims to have an even stronger and more lasting impact on the security industry. In particular, he hopes to push the field away from a law enforcement-focused approach and toward a more customer-centered model. To achieve this, Mr. Kohlenbeck plans to seek more effective ways to integrate technology, human intelligence and other tools into existing security processes. He intends to leave a meaningful and lasting mark on both the private and public sectors with these changes.
