Dr. Berry has dedicated over three decades to education and environmental advocacy, culminating in his current role as the president of Seven Cypress dba Green Trees Once More. Throughout his tenured career, he has consistently demonstrated a commitment to fostering educational growth and environmental sustainability. Having launched SevenCypress.org to further promote environmental awareness and sustainability, Dr. Berry’s website provides information about the company’s mission, which focuses on habitat restoration and reforestation, while also offering visitors guidance on how to become more involved through volunteerism.

Dr. Berry’s journey began in 1972 as a middle school teacher, where he introduced students to vocational education through a rotational teaching model. After several years, he transitioned into business management, gaining valuable experience with a restaurant chain and a building construction company. In 1986, Dr. Berry embarked on a new chapter by joining the U.S. Army, serving as an active duty officer and later retiring as a major after over 25 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. During his active duty, he also served as an assistant professor of military science at his alma mater, the University of Central Florida, in Orlando.

A graduate of the University of Central Florida, Dr. Berry earned both a master’s degree and a Doctor of Education. Utilizing the GI Bill to pursue higher education, his academic achievements laid the foundation for his return to Seminole County, Florida, where he taught at Lyman High School for a decade. There, Dr. Berry implemented several innovative programs, such as a biometric attendance system, and expanded a work program that provided hands-on training to students.

Dr. Berry’s career continued to flourish as he took on leadership roles in various technical colleges across Florida. As the assistant director at Orange Technical College’s Westside Campus, he established a photovoltaics program that significantly enhanced the school’s energy efficiency. His expertise as a certified electrical instructor enabled him to teach students how to install solar panels, furthering their practical skills. Dr. Berry later served as the assistant director at Manatee Technical College and as a technical director at Pinellas Technical Educational Center before becoming the principal of the Seminole Vocational Education Center.

Dr. Berry’s involvement with SkillsUSA and participation in international projects, such as the Sister Schools Project between Lyman High School and a high school in Kazakhstan, highlight his commitment to global educational initiatives. More recently, his passion for environmental conservation has been evident through his efforts to plant 300 cypress trees along Lake Apopka on Earth Day 2024.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Berry is actively involved in civic organizations, such as his local chamber of commerce and the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools. He has also become known for his remarkable contribution as one of Central Florida’s top blood donors, having donated 100 gallons of blood and platelets.

Throughout his career, Dr. Berry has been recognized for his dedication to education and community service. He was named Lyman Teacher of the Year in 1996 and received the Disney Teacherrific Award in the high school category.

Looking ahead, Dr. Berry envisions creating an arboretum on a 225-acre property in Virginia, where visitors can learn about various tree species through interactive QR codes. If funding is not secured, he plans to continue his environmental cleanup efforts and expand wetlands in Florida.
