Tabatha L. Gomillia, Lead Electrical Inspector at Saint Louis County Government and Founder and Consultant at Ask the Lady Electrical Inspector, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in Electrical Work.

Ms. Gomillia has carved a distinguished path in the electrical industry, demonstrating resilience and dedication throughout her three-decade-long career. As the lead electrical inspector for Saint Louis County Government in Missouri since 2011, she has been instrumental in facilitating electrical inspections for commercial buildings, light residential and light industrial projects. Her role involves providing essential support to electrical contractors and electricians, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations. Ms. Gomillia was initially hired by the Saint Louis County Government as an electrician before transitioning into the role of inspector.

Before pivoting into county government work, Ms. Gomillia spent over 15 years as a commercial electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local One from 1995 to 2011. During this time, she gained invaluable experience that laid the foundation for her expertise in electrical inspection.

Ms. Gomillia’s journey in the field began with her service as an electrician in the U.S. Navy between 1989 and 1994, a testament to her hard work and dedication. After being honorably discharged, she was accepted into the IBEW Local One and began what would become a successful career in the industry.

Ms. Gomillia’s educational background has been pivotal to her success. She earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical construction design and management from Ranken Technical College in Saint Louis in 2014, following an associate degree in applied management, which she completed on campus in 2012. Her academic journey also included coursework at the U.S. Navy Electrical School in 1990, as well as training in electrical, electronics and communications engineering, which she completed at the IBEW Local One Joint Electrical Apprenticeship Training Center in 1999.

Breaking barriers in a male-dominated sector, Ms. Gomillia created the “Ask the Lady Electrical Inspector” weekly podcast, which serves as a platform for sharing valuable insights and information about the industry, including the minimum requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC) for electrical installations in new construction projects and existing structures. This initiative stands as her most notable achievement, reflecting Ms. Gomillia’s dedication to empowering others through knowledge and experience.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Gomillia is driven by personal goals that align with her passion for teaching and writing. She aims to become a significant influencer in the electrical industry with plans to establish a 24-hour hotline for electrical contractors and electricians. This initiative seeks to guide equipment installation, thereby reducing rework and preventing inspection failures. Additionally, Ms. Gomillia intends to begin offering consulting services designed to guide clients through the complexities of electrical code compliance, ensuring safety and efficiency, while also providing education through training and resources to enhance their electrical expertise.

Ms. Gomillia’s tenacity and determination have been key factors in overcoming stereotypes and challenges throughout her career. By focusing on positive aspects and encouraging women to pursue careers in construction, she exemplifies how dedication and hard work can lead to success despite any obstacles faced along the way.

In light of her service in the U.S. Navy, Ms. Gomillia was recognized with a Good Conduct Honor and a National Defense Medal. Her dedication was further distinguished by a Letter of Commendation signed by a fleet admiral.
