Peggy R. Breda, CDAL, founder and owner of A Family Tie, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing home and long-term care.

Growing up in a rural area, Ms. Breda dreamed of leaving her father’s farm and becoming an executive. With those aspirations in mind, she attended the Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University, earning a bachelor’s degree that would become the foundation for her future success. While Ms. Breda struggled to find a job that suited her ambitions after graduating, she was encouraged to consider a career in senior living by her sister, who worked for Sunrise Senior Living at the time. Ms. Breda began her career in long-term care and nursing homes at the age of 24 and quickly fell in love with the field, devoting herself to progressing within it.

After establishing herself, Ms. Breda quickly rose to the position of director of marketing for Sunrise Senior Living in Arlington, Virginia. After six years in marketing and sales, she was eager to shift back into the world of operations. Later in her professional life, Ms. Breda joined Arden Courts, a memory care unit based in Kensington, Maryland. She was promoted to the role of executive director after just half a year at Arden Courts, and she remained there until retiring from full-time work in 2017.

However, Ms. Breda has stayed active postretirement, founding A Family Tie with her late husband. Through this organization, she helps families navigate the daunting experience of finding the best senior living care for aging family members. This venture has utilized Ms. Breda’s decades of expertise to aid hundreds of families during some of their most difficult moments. She pledges thoughtful, personalized consultation, transition support and contact for 30 days after a move to ensure that everyone is satisfied. Ms. Breda believes her extensive experience in senior living truly sets her apart when it comes to aiding families in transitioning seniors into long-term care facilities. She prioritizes community, quality of life and social engagement, all aspects that are often overlooked in this process.

In addition to continuing to operate A Family Tie, Ms. Breda launched a foundation named Floating Bridge in memory of her late husband, who was a passionate practitioner of the martial art of aikido. Before his untimely passing, he had planned to open a dojo under the name Floating Bridge. Although that dream was never realized, Ms. Breda named her nonprofit organization in its honor. Through Floating Bridge, she provides help to people who are struggling to afford assisted living. Ms. Breda has also contributed to her community as a member of the board of the Insight Memory Care Center and a past president of the Loudoun Senior Interest Network.

Outside of her accomplished professional life, Ms. Breda is a loving mother to three children and two stepchildren, and a grandmother to one grandchild. Beyond her continued work with A Family Tie, she fills her retirement with biking, traveling and spending time enjoying the ocean. Looking ahead, Ms. Breda has two primary goals: growing Floating Bridge and writing a book. For the latter, she intends to draw on her many years of experience in senior living, especially working with individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Ms. Breda hopes to inspire readers by exploring how those living with these illnesses still find joy in life, as well as exploring her process of grief after losing her husband. She also aims to significantly expand A Family Tie by opening numerous new offices in the coming years.
