Mr. Hufana’s distinguished career spans over five decades, marked by a deep commitment to martial arts, education and community engagement. His journey is rooted in a family legacy of Filipino martial arts, tracing back to his great-great-grandfather, an Eskrimador, and carried forward through his grandfather and father. Beginning his training at age seven, Mr. Hufana has become an expert in all combat ranges of Filipino martial arts, including Arnis, Eskrima and Kali.

In 1991, Mr. Hufana assumed ownership of a martial arts academy in Redmond, Washington, renaming it Bellevue Martial Arts Academy LLC, Hufana Traditional Arnis International. For more than 35 years, he has served as the owner, chief instructor and program director. In these roles, he has overseen business operations, developed curriculum and mentored students of all ages. His dedication to propagating Filipino martial arts worldwide is evident in his efforts to bring renowned teachers from the Philippines to the U.S. for specialized training events. Mr. Hufana’s greatest achievement lies in witnessing the success of his students, many of whom began their training as young children, excelling academically and professionally, only to return and enroll their children under his guidance.

Mr. Hufana’s professional experience extends into the insurance industry. Since 2001, he has been affiliated with State Farm and Farmers Insurance Company as a licensed insurance agent, providing property, casualty, liability and life insurance services for nearly two decades. Additionally, he has worked as a broker with Goosehead Insurance and Comma Insurance Company for five years. Earlier in his career, Mr. Hufana served as an account executive at AT&T for 15 years.

In addition to completing coursework in architecture at Washington State University, Mr. Hufana holds several advanced certifications in martial arts. He is recognized as a master and grand master in Filipino martial arts and traditional taekwondo. In addition to his martial arts credentials, Mr. Hufana holds an insurance license in property, casualty, liability and life insurance in Washington, endorsed by Farmers Insurance Company. He is also certified and licensed to sell commercial insurance through the Washington State Insurance Licensing Office. Mr. Hufana is fluent in English, Tagalog and Ilocano.

Mr. Hufana’s leadership within the martial arts community is further demonstrated by his founding of the World Filipino Martial Arts Association in 2003. He served as the president of the association for over five years and continues to play an active role in its mission to promote Filipino martial arts globally. Mr. Hufana has also been a member of BNI Global LLC since 2024.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Hufana has made significant contributions to civic life as an event coordinator and program director for arts and culture at Pagdiriwang of Washington since 1995. He also plays a key role in organizing the annual Philippine Independence Celebration, fostering cultural awareness within the community. As a contributor to creative projects, Mr. Hufana played a pivotal role in producing “Voices of the Masters: Warrior Arts of the Philippines,” an Indie film documentary that received international acclaim at the New York International Film Festival, where he was recognized as a winner in 2010.

Mr. Hufana’s success was first recognized in 1989 with a prestigious Circle of Excellence award from AT&T. His later years were marked by numerous accolades for his contributions to martial arts, including recognition in the Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Master of the Year in Texas in 2004 and as Instructor of the Year in the Philippines in 2007. Additionally, Mr. Hufana was inducted into Bruce Lee’s Motivational Hall of Fame for Martial Artists in 2014.

Throughout his career, Mr. Hufana has attributed his achievements to the teachings of his parents and the unwavering support of his wife and children. He continues to inspire others through his passion for teaching martial arts and mentoring the next generation. Mr. Hufana remains dedicated to advancing Filipino martial arts education. He aims to continue training and empowering individuals with confidence and self-protection skills through martial arts instruction for years to come.
