A. Dale Armour

Title: Chief of Police
Company:
Nolensville Police Department
Location:
Murfreesboro, Tennessee, United States

A. Dale Armour, chief of police for the Nolensville Police Department, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law enforcement.

Following several years as a factory worker at Rich Products Corporation, Mr. Armour embarked on a career of more than 45 years in law enforcement, beginning as a patrol and field training officer with the Murfreesboro Police Department in 1979. Recognized for his skill in the field, he became a criminal investigator with the Tennessee Department of Safety in 1986. From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Armour contributed as a special agent and criminal investigator with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, where he later took on the roles of assistant special agent in charge and special agent criminal investigator. He later served as a special deputy U.S. marshal, a task force officer and a member of a joint fugitive task force for the U.S. Marshal Service; an emergency services coordinator for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency; and a task force officer for the FBI.

Culminating his professional life in law enforcement, Mr. Armour assumed the role of chief of police for the Algood Police Department in 2018. After more than five years with that department, he was asked to take over a vacancy as chief of police for Nolensville, a town situated an hour and a half away from Algood, Tennessee. This assignment has presented new challenges for Mr. Armour, as the city of Nolensville, located just outside of Nashville, faces significant budget constraints. Nevertheless, it has earned a reputation as one of the fastest-growing and safest cities in the region, which he has been proud to maintain.

Throughout his time in law enforcement, Mr. Armour has established a reputation as someone who is genuinely committed to duty and service. He views communicating and maintaining a strong relationship with his local community to be his most important job. Though Mr. Armour could have taken over his mother’s business earlier in his life, he wasn’t interested because he always knew that he wanted to help others through police work. He has had the opportunity to take on high-level service details, including assignments involving presidents Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and vice president Al Gore.

Mr. Armour’s performance in the field has been supported by his academic background, starting with completing basic police academy training at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1980. From there, he obtained an Associate of Arts from Middle Tennessee State University in 1987. Subsequently, Mr. Armour earned a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice from Excelsior University (formerly Excelsior College) in 1992. He has further solidified his expertise with a wide range of professional credentials.

Among other accomplishments, Mr. Armour is certified in federal emergency disaster response from the Federal Emergency Management Agency; in emergency medical technology from the Nashville State Community College; in fugitive investigation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center; in government leadership from LEAD Tennessee; in organizational leadership from the University of Tennessee’s Government Management Institute; in criminal justice studies from the University of Virginia; and in municipal management from the University of Tennessee’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service. He was granted top secret security clearance by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2013.

A prolific writer, Mr. Armour has published numerous internal documents to aid law enforcement officials in his local and state communities. He created the Murfreesboro Police Department’s field training manual in 1984. In 1987, Mr. Armour authored “Fraudulent Documents and False Identification Manual: Tennessee Driver’s License Examiners to Combat ID Fraud,” providing vital guidance for dealing with what was a growing issue. He has further contributed to the field by serving as a board member for the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police and on the Tennessee Sex Offender Treatment Board since 2011.

In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Armour prides himself on being a devoted family man for his wife, three children and three grandchildren. Though he is now 65 and has dedicated most of his life to law enforcement, he does not have any plans to retire. Mr. Armour still finds his work as chief of police for the Nolensville Police Department to be extremely fulfilling. He is open to considering shifting to a directorial role in a federal investigative agency, but he would be just as satisfied staying in Nolensville until his retirement.
