Mr. Liermann has established a distinguished career in law enforcement and public service, marked by progressive leadership roles and a steadfast commitment to community safety. As the captain of support services at the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office since 2018, he oversees the communication center, which serves as the dispatch hub for all fire, police and emergency medical services throughout Sheboygan County. In this capacity, Mr. Liermann manages a team of four to six dispatchers on duty at all times, ensuring seamless coordination and response for public safety operations. His responsibilities also include supervising suit management, overseeing mechanical readiness, serving as backup to the emergency management director and directing civilian staff in the records division who handle critical reporting and information for state compliance.

A tenure with the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office that began in 2000, Mr. Liermann was initially appointed as a deputy sheriff. Throughout his service, he has demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness in securing nearly $2.5 million in equipment funding through grants. Notably, Mr. Liermann led efforts to secure a $250,000 grant for a new patrol boat on Lake Michigan by drafting a successful proposal that addressed the county’s urgent needs. More recently, he secured a $125,000 grant for virtual reality training equipment, which further enhances the department’s capabilities.

In addition to his primary role, Mr. Liermann has served as the chief of police for the Village of Cascade Police Department since August 2004. In this part-time position, he patrols Cascade and neighboring towns, including Waldo, Adell and Lyndon, maintaining a visible presence and fostering strong community relations. Previously, Mr. Liermann spent 2004 to 2018 as a police officer with the Village of Cascade while concurrently holding positions within the sheriff’s office.

Earlier in his public service career, Mr. Liermann served as a police officer with the Village of Elkhart Lake from 1999 to 2004. Beyond his law enforcement duties, he has contributed to criminal justice education as an adjunct instructor at Lakeshore College, sharing his expertise with aspiring professionals in the field.

Mr. Liermann’s educational background has been instrumental in shaping his leadership approach and operational effectiveness. Beyond his formal education, Mr. Liermann’s professional development has included receiving certification as a public manager in criminal justice and corrections from the Wisconsin Command College in 2014 and completing the realistic de-escalation instructor course through Force Science in 2023. He also maintains an emergency medical services certification.

Mr. Liermann’s professional affiliations demonstrate his commitment to advancing law enforcement standards and fostering collaboration across agencies. He is an active member of the Wisconsin Flex User Group and serves as the vice president of the Flex Midwest User Group. Additionally, he holds the position of treasurer with the Sheboygan County Law Enforcement Association and is affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Police’s Lakeshore chapter, the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and FBI-LEEDA Inc.

Civic engagement remains central to Mr. Liermann’s life. He volunteers as a firefighter with his local fire department, further demonstrating his commitment to public safety beyond policing. He also serves as the third vice president of the Wisconsin Command College Alumni Association.

Mr. Liermann’s exemplary service has been recognized with several honors, including First Responder of the Year and four Awards of Excellence from the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, as well as an Involvement Award from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Mr. Liermann attributes his success to the unwavering support of his department, family and friends who have encouraged him throughout his journey. His initial interest in law enforcement was sparked by a ride-along experience following an unsatisfying start at a four-year university. This pivotal moment set him on his current path.

Eager for the future, Mr. Liermann remains dedicated to mentoring future leaders within law enforcement by sharing knowledge gained over more than two decades of service. He intends to prepare the next generation to assume leadership roles within his department while considering potential advancement to inspector or exploring opportunities as chief at another agency if circumstances align with his values and goals.
