Partnering with his son, a builder, he acquired and renovated a historic building, successfully reestablishing Peerless as a respected name in the bourbon industry.
Before leading Kentucky Peerless Distilling Company, Mr. Taylor owned Bencor, a financial services firm he built from the ground up. After establishing Bencor as a reputable entity in the financial sector, he sold the company to a New York-based firm located at Rockefeller Center. This milestone marked a significant career achievement and allowed Mr. Taylor to reflect on his professional journey before returning to his family’s roots in distilling.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Taylor excelled as a marketing manager for Jefferies in New York. This position developed his expertise in marketing and client relations within the financial services industry, skills that would later prove invaluable as he transitioned into entrepreneurship and ultimately into the spirits business.
Mr. Taylor’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. He attended the institution on a four-year golf scholarship, serving as the team co-captain during his sophomore year and as the captain during his junior and senior years. The leadership skills and discipline Mr. Taylor developed through collegiate athletics have significantly shaped his approach to business management and team building. Beyond his education, he has served as a board member of the American Lung Association, demonstrating his commitment to civic engagement and public health advocacy alongside his business pursuits.
Mr. Taylor’s achievements have been recognized through several honors, including induction into the Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2024. His philosophy centers on respect for everyone, including employees, colleagues and customers, and he credits humility and perseverance as essential qualities for lasting success.
