Bruce Gunn Kelley, President & CEO at EMC Insurance Companies, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Management.
Mr. Kelley has been involved with his family’s insurance company since he was a child, and went to law school with a concentration in insurance to help the family business. Started by his grandfather in 1911, the firm has been under Mr. Kelley’s leadership since 1992 as president and chief executive officer. He feels that working together with and bringing people onto his management team has been a highlight of his career, and when he took over there was already a strategic plan he was able to use as a guide. While forging ahead with his management team, he has also kept an eye on history, and is very involved with the historic preservation of his community.
A recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Mr. Kelley has appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in Corporate America, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America. He attended Dartmouth College to earn a AB in 1976, and completed a JD with the University of Iowa Law School. From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Kelley worked with Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor & Fairgrave, becoming a partner for his last year before returning as general counsel to his family’s company.
Mr. Kelley was recently inducted into the Theodore Roosevelt High School Hall of Fame in 2017 by the Theodore Roosevelt High School Foundation, and was previously named to the Hall of Fame of Iowa Insurance. He also holds a Distinguished Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America, and has given his time to the board of directors at the Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa at the Property and Liability Resource Bureau. He is also a member of the Polk County Bar Association, Lincoln Inne, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Des Moines Embassy Club, Rotary International, and the Masons.
