With 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Davis has been an attorney with the Law Offices of Richard J. Davis since 2012. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was a partner with Weil, Gotshal, and Manges, LLP, from 1981 to 2011, having been an associate with the firm since 1976. From 1977 to 1981, he was an assistant secretary-treasurer for enforcement and operations for the US Department of the Treasury, and from 1973 to 1975 he was an assistant special prosecutor for the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. Earlier in his career, he was a member of the criminal division and assistant chief of the appellate attorney corruption unit for the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York from 1970 to 1973 and a law clerk to Judge Jack B. Weinstein for the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York from 1969 to 1970.
Mr. Davis first pursued an education with the University of Rochester, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history, with honors, in 1966. He continued his studies with Columbia University School of Law, earning a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in 1969. He has been admitted to practice in the state of New York and the District of Columbia, as well as before the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
