Myrna Fischman, Professor Emerita at Long Island University Brooklyn, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in accountancy.
Dr. Fischman prepared for her stellar career in accountancy and accountancy instruction with a Bachelor of Science in 1960 and a Master of Science in 1964 from Baruch College, New York, NY and later continued her education with a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University in 1976. At the outset of her career in 1954 Dr. Fischer excelled as Chief Accountant Investigator for the Queens District Attorney, a position she held until 1970, and taught accounting with Central Commercial High School, New York, from 1960 to 1963 and Manhattan Community College from 1963 to 1966.
Providing superior instruction with Long Island University (LIU), Brooklyn, for nearly five decades, Dr. Fischman joined LIU as a professor of accountancy in 1970 and served as a professor of accounting, taxation, and law from 1979 to 2019, directing LIU’s School of Professional Accountancy from 1984 to 2019 and Center for Accounting & Tax Education from 1986 to 2019, attaining stats as Professor Emerita the latter year. At three LIU campuses, she developed a 150-hour bachelor/master’s degree accounting program approved by the New York State Education Department for preparation of the certified public accountant exam. More recently she has endowed the Myrna L. Fischman Excellence in Accounting Scholarship.
Dr. Fischman’s many career honors include a Woman of Empowerment recognition in 2018 by P.O.W.E.R. (Professional Organization of Women of Excellence Recognized) for her outstanding contributions and achievements for over 50 years in the fields of finance and education, a special award for 40 years of service to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program by the Internal Revenue Service in 2014, a Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptimist International, Brooklyn, and the Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Moreover, she has been selected to receive the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, and for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who Top Professionals, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of Professional Women, Marquis Who’s Who Millennium Magazine and as a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Leader.
To keep abreast of industry trends Dr. Fischman has been a member of many professional organizations such as the New York chapter of the Association of Government Accountants and the American Accounting Association. Furthermore, Dr. Fischman is a member of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the National Education Association and, among others, the Doctorate Association of New York Educators and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
