For the past 45 years, Mr. Kelly has excelled as the owner and operator of Darlington Gun Works in Darlington, South Carolina. Notably, his shop has been featured in several local and international publications including Columbia Metropolitan Magazine, Parker Gun Collection Association, Field and Stream, South Carolina Wildlife, Sporting Classics and Covey Rise Magazine. Alongside his duties in running his business, Mr. Kelly first earned a Master of Science in banking from Southern Louisiana University in 1968 and simultaneously worked as a banker for 38 years. He has also served as a board member of the Mutual Savings Bank for three decades, was vice president of the South Carolina Arms Dealers Association for 13 years and remains a member of the National Rifle Association.
Reflecting upon his career thus far, he is especially keen on his service in the United States Air Force, during which he enjoyed his time as a gunsmith for four years and bomb and navigation technician for six years. Additionally, Mr. Kelly is excited to share his finding of a historical gun, which was missing for 47 years and ended up being one of the most famous shotguns in Texas. Mr. Kelly has received several recognitions for service from the South Carolina Arms Dealers Association, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation for Service from the U.S. Secretary of Defense. In 2006 and 2017, respectively, Field and Stream Magazine and Sporting Classics named him a Top 10 Master Gunsmith in the USA. At 85 years old, Mr. Kelly is proud to have achieved all of his goals and looks forward to the continued success of his business.
