Lydia Munoz, Chief Executive Officer at Spanish Community Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in community assistance.
For more than four decades since 1974, Ms. Munoz has provided superior service as founder and chief executive officer of the Spanish Community Center in Landisville, New Jersey, a premier facility whose mission is to actively encourage the restoration, preservation and maximization of physiological, psychological, and sociological health, wellbeing, and functioning of the Latino communities living in Southern New Jersey. Services rendered include programs to enhance and support the academic performance of Hispanic/Latino children through tutoring and homework assistance, bilingual parental counseling, in-home case management and individual/family support for individuals or families designated “at-risk,” mental health supportive services, employment mentoring services and an emergency food bank.
Ms. Munoz additionally served the Atlantic County Special Services School District from 1995 to 2011 as a certified social worker and licensed clinical social worker. As a case manager she scheduled individualized education programs, provided counseling to students, conducted meetings with parents, providers and districts, conducted workshops during in service to staff and also linked parents/students to outside services. In 1977, she had earned a Bachelor of Arts from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina and continued her education with a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University in New Jersey in 1979. Ms. Munoz’s professional affiliations include the National Association of Social Workers.
Ms. Munoz attributes her success to her advocacy for others and to providing opportunities and resources for people particularly the Latino community, as well as the love and example of her mother, who raised her as a single parent while working in a factory. She became involved in her profession because of her passion and desire to help families and provide the resources they need in order to keep their families together and have a better life. Making an impact and making a difference in their lives has been Ms. Munoz’s primary goal.
Receiving numerous awards for her outstanding contribution to the community all throughout her career as the CEO of the Spanish Community Center as well as being a clinical social worker has been Ms. Munoz’s most notable accomplishment. One particular award was the award she received from the executive director of the agency in the celebration of the Women’s Month in 2021 for recognizing her work in the community.
Ms. Munoz is currently mentoring and training a master’s degree program student who will eventually take the position that she currently has as the chief executive officer of Spanish Community Center. She is the first person in the family to graduate from college, and Ms. Munoz felt her compassion and potential is everything that the agency needs in order to continue its legacy in helping their community.
