Eli Rios, President at ECR Antique Conservation & Restoration Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in antique furniture reconditioning.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in marketing from New York University in 1972, Mr. Rios’ early enthusiasm for chemistry led to his cultivation of a strong desire to learn all facets of antique restoration and conservation. He earned certification through the Smithsonian Conservator’s Analytical Laboratory as a conservator, where his main focus was with the chemistry of historical materials. In addition, he acquired certificates from Amherst University in wood boring insect infestation and treatment and wood identification, and completed a course in the chemistry of polymer and modern materials at John Brown University in in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Since 1989, Mr. Rios has found much success as the owner and president of E. C. Rios Antiques Conservation in Long Island City, New York, in which he specializes in the reconditioning of Great American and Regency English furniture in particular, but also of French and Italian antiques. After training under a German restorer, he excelled from 1981 to 1989 as foreman and manager of the gilding, finishing and quality control department with Sotheby’s, the world-renowned action house. He has imparted his knowledge in the applied chemistry of historic materials at the Fashion Institute of Tedchnology (FIT), New York University, the Parsons School of Design, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the Harvard Club. In addition, Mr. Rios also works with Hunter College, taking on student apprentices. In the coming years, Mr. Rios’ goal is to help inner-city children develop an interest in furniture rehabilitation and possibly work in one of his studios. He also plans to continue working and teaching at the New York School of Interior Design.
