Barbara Hawes, PHD, DRCC, Independent Insurance Agent and Certified Benefits Counselor, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in counseling.
Dr. Hawes is an accomplished mental health professional with decades of experience in crisis response. Since 2014, she has excelled as an independent insurance agent and certified benefits counselor. Alongside these positions, she has found success as a disaster response counselor since 2012. Dr. Hawes built her career on helping others at the depths of the emotional, psychological and humanitarian realms and considers herself an “adrenaline junkie.” Throughout her career, she has enjoyed changing her areas of involvement to satisfy her continual desire to learn and stay up to date as a professional.
In 1993, Dr. Hawes began her career as the director of crisis prevention and stabilization services for Vesta Inc., MD, where she remained until 1998. From 2000 to 2003, she served as the deputy director of the Crisis Response System in Maryland, and from 2003 to 2004, she worked as the director of Resources for Human Development. Following these positions, Dr. Hawes garnered experience as an independent consultant for disaster response from 2004 to 2012.
To prepare for her professional pursuits, Dr. Hawes graduated from Roanoke College with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and psychology in 1977. She studied Deaf education at the University of Virginia before obtaining a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. Continuing her higher education, Dr. Hawes graduated from Charisma University with a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology in 2014. Alongside her formal degrees, she is an ordained minister.
For her professional achievements as a crisis response professional, Dr. Hawes has received numerous awards. She has been featured in the Marquis Who’s Who Millennium Magazine and named a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Leader. Dr. Hawes was additionally recognized with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award. To keep abreast of her field, she maintains affiliation with the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and Rotary International. In the coming years, she hopes to complete and publish two books, one about caring for aging parents and the other a more lighthearted work.
