Will Roger, founding board member of Burning Man Project, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in photography and design.
In his career, Mr. Roger has been an integral part of the growth and organization of Burning Man, a popular annual music and arts festival. He, along with other cultural co-founders including the late Larry Harvey, formed a company to manage and expand Burning Man. As a founding board member, he played a crucial role in establishing Burning Man Project, Black Rock Arts Foundation, and Black Rock City, LLC. With a worldwide network of Burning Man enthusiasts in over 60 countries, Mr. Roger has been involved since 1994 and continues to promote the creation of remarkable art within the Burning Man community.
Mr. Roger is not only an artist and author but also a teacher, innovator, and environmentalist. He notably earned a Bachelor of Fine Art and a Master of Fine Art in instructional technology and analytical chemistry, both from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Before his involvement with Burning Man, Mr. Roger worked as an associate professor of photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Outside of his primary responsibilities, Mr. Roger served as the chairman of Sierra Front, a member of the North Western Great Basin Resource Advisory Council and the president of the Friends of the Black Rock-High Rock. He has found success with his written works as well, having authored “A Handbook for a Burning Age” in 2022 and “Compass of the Ephemeral: Aerial Photography of Black Rock City through the Lens of Will Roger” in 2019. Likewise, Mr. Roger’s aerial photography has been exhibited at such venues as The Rotunda of the United States Capitol, Sotheby’s, The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and The Nevada Museum of Art, to name only a few.
Looking ahead, Mr. Roger has exciting plans for the next five years. He aims to publish three more books featuring his photography of flowers and poetry. Collaborating with three poets, he envisions releasing two books next year, titled “Manifesto for a Burning Age” and “In Search of the Common Shaman.” These future endeavors showcase his passion for combining visual arts with written expression.
