A volunteer within her local community, Ms. Downing has notably worked with the Mary N. Smith Cultural Enrichment Center, the Eastern Shore Health Communities, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation, and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation in recent years. Additionally, she has been a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. In accounting for her overall success, she largely credits her deep and abiding Christian faith, as well as the tutelage of her personal mentors.
