Carolyn Perdue-Williams, chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee at National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Lake County Branch, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in veteran advocacy.
With 40 years of experience to her credit, Ms. Perdue-Williams has excelled as chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee of the Lake County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for the past three years. In this role, she is responsible for giving out information about veteran employment and virtual job applications, filling out financial forms, organizing logistics for veterans’ events, and providing options for veterans to seek higher education or employment. She worked as a high school teacher for 40 years teaching English, British literature, world literature, and grammar.
Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Perdue-Williams pursued an education at the University of Illinois where she earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and English. She continued her academic efforts at Roosevelt University, obtaining a Master of Science in administration in 1992. She concluded her studies at the University of Illinois, graduating with a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction. She completed her certification as a teacher by the National Board in 2013.
Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Perdue-Williams has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. She volunteered with Delta Sigma Theta, The Links Incorporated, and the African American Club. She attributes her success to being an educator and her ability to direct students to sources that can help them. Her most notable achievement has been preparing students for higher education beyond high school. In the immediate future, she hopes to complete her master’s degree in National Board Certification, pursue a doctorate, travel, and spend time with her grandchildren.
