Mr. Bates’ educational journey commenced with obtaining a Bachelor of Science in business management at the University of Findlay in 2003. Mr. Bates’ academic pursuit culminated with a Master of Business Administration in organizational leadership from the University of Findlay in 2007, reflecting his commitment to professional growth and specialization. Mr. Bates’ illustrious career path reflects his progressive journey in environmental health and safety (EHS) management. He started as a part of Honeywell’s health, safety, environmental and security team from 2003 to 2005, followed by his role as a global environmental, health, and safety auditor at Owens Corning from 2005 to 2006. Subsequently, he ventured into entrepreneurship founding and operating Next Generation Enterprises from 2006 to 2008.
Transitioning into corporate roles, Mr. Bates served as the corporate environmental, health, and safety manager at Midway Products Group Inc. from 2008 to 2012, followed by his tenure as the global director of environmental, health, safety, and loss prevention at Inteva Products LLC from 2012 to 2016. He ascended to the position of global head of health, safety, security at Cooper Tire & Rubber Company from 2016 to 2018. Thereafter, he assumed the role of senior executive of global environmental, health, safety and compliance at ServiceMaster from 2018 to 2020. Mr. Bates was active as the esteemed global head of environmental, health, safety, process safety, and regulatory compliance at Aurorium from 2020 to the end of 2023.
Mr. Bates exhibits a fervent commitment to fostering transformative leadership and strategic planning, as seen through his civic engagement. He has been appointed as a member of the advisory board for the Transformative Leadership and Design Thinking Program at St. Joseph’s College since 2023. His involvement extends to board roles, having been recruited to the board of directors for A&C Enterprise Solutions LLC from 2020 to 2021. Moreover, Mr. Bates made significant contributions as a delegate on the board of directors for the National Safety Council from 2017 to 2021, as well as in his role as the strategic planning committee chair on the young professionals board within the National Safety Council from 2018 to 2020. He received the 2018 Rising Stars of Safety Award and was featured in the Top 40 Under 40 by the National Safety Council, highlighting his commitment to safety and leadership.
