Mark J. Schirmer AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, architect at Moody Nolan, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in architecture.
Mr. Schirmer is a distinguished professional with over three decades of experience in architecture. Before he served Moody Nolan, he worked for a small architectural firm for five years before partnering with a friend to form a firm in Michigan. One of his most remarkable achievements was the completion of the Pelotonia Research Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Attributing his success to God’s grace and a strong work ethic instilled by his father, Mr. Schirmer utilized these assets to earn a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, a part of Kent State University in 1987. One of his professors taught him that when you stop being a student of architecture, you need to leave the profession because you will be doing it a disservice.
Mr. Schirmer believes that to be the greatest, one must be a servant to all. This belief has proven successful for him as he was recognized with the Architecture Firm Award by the American Institute of Architects in 2021. Additionally, he participates as a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He is also an accredited professional in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) by the U.S. Green Building Council, Inc.
In the coming years, Mr. Schirmer intends to continue in his current position, including mentoring the next generation of young architects, with a view to retiring within a decade. Following his retirement, he plans to relocate in order to be closer to his family. When he is not working, he dedicates his time and attention to outdoor activities such as hiking, exercise, landscaping, and walking his two dogs, Emerson and Gigi. He also enjoys spending time with his friends and family.
