With 26 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Jackson has excelled as emeritus professor and director of the Drug, Alcohol and Wellness Network at Bloomsburg University since 2011. He began his involvement with the same as a psychological counselor and director of the Center for Counseling and Human Development from 1990 to 2011. He started his career as a psychological counselor at Penn West Edinboro within Pennsylvania Western University from 1988 to 1990. He was active as a visiting professor for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board within the Bureau of Education in 1998.
Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Jackson pursued an education at Susquehanna University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion in 1969. He continued his academic efforts at Syracuse University, obtaining a master’s degree in student personnel services in higher education and educational organization and finance in 1972. At the University of Iowa, he completed postdoctoral studies in higher education law in 1982. He concluded his studies at the University of Georgia, graduating with a PhD in counseling and human development in 1975.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Jackson has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was presented with the Public Service Award by the Pennsylvania State Senate, the Outstanding Service Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs, the
William J. Schofield, III Award, and the Dissertation Award by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. He was selected as a Fulbright Senior Scholar by the Fulbright Foundation Washington in 2011 and a senior honorary research fellow by the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Otago. He was recognized as an ambassador for psychology and counseling by the Dwight D. Eisenhower Foundation and the American Counseling Association and was included in the Oxford University Roundtable in 2007.
