Kerri Brewster-Medina, Director of College Counseling at International College Counselors, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements and leadership in Higher Education.
Ms. Brewster-Medina has established a distinguished career in college counseling and educational guidance, marked by over two decades of dedicated service to students and their families. Since 2013, she has served as the director of college counseling at International College Counselors, where she works closely with them to navigate the complexities of the admissions process. In this capacity, Ms. Brewster-Medina meets with clients to develop tailored college plans, assists in selecting appropriate institutions, reviews application materials and essays, and ensures that every component is meticulously revised and polished. Her expertise encompasses college counseling, undergraduate admissions, graduate school programs and Doctor of Philosophy programs, reflecting a comprehensive understanding of the academic landscape.
Before being acquired by her organization, Ms. Brewster-Medina was the Dade County coordinator for Women of Tomorrow from 2011 to 2013. In this position, she played a pivotal role in mentoring young women and supporting their educational aspirations through targeted programming and outreach initiatives at senior high schools and alternative schools, benefiting over 1,200 at-risk girls throughout Miami-Dade County. Concurrently, Ms. Brewster-Medina contributed as a curriculum specialist for Miami-Dade County Public Schools during the same period, where she was responsible for developing and refining instructional materials to enhance student learning outcomes.
Ms. Brewster-Medina’s early career included working as a CAP advisor for more than a decade, beginning at Doral Academy Charter High School and then at John A. Ferguson Senior High School, starting in 2002. This opportunity allowed her to begin cultivating her passion for educational counseling and student advocacy. In this advisory role, Ms. Brewster-Medina guided high school students through the college application process, providing individualized support and resources to help them achieve their postsecondary goals. She also hosted college presentations, college visits, financial aid workshops, parent presentations and classroom visits.
In preparation for her career in education, Ms. Brewster-Medina earned a Bachelor of Arts in communication and organizational leadership from Trinity International University in Florida. Additionally, she received an English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement from the Florida Department of Education as well as certification to teach English for grades six through 12 in Florida. Notably, Ms. Brewster-Medina is bilingual in English and Spanish, a skill that enhances her ability to connect with students from varied backgrounds.
Ms. Brewster-Medina is an active member of several professional organizations, reflecting her dedication to ongoing professional development and industry engagement. She holds memberships with the North Carolina College Counseling Association, the Independent Educational Consultants Association and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Brewster-Medina is civically engaged as a volunteer with the Alamance County Service League and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Her involvement with these organizations demonstrates a longstanding commitment to community service and youth mentorship.
Throughout her career, Ms. Brewster-Medina has been recognized for her ability to inspire students to excel and thrive in their academic pursuits. One of her most meaningful achievements occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when a former student reached out to share that he had become a resident at a prominent New York hospital, a milestone he credited to her guidance during his medical school application process. Looking ahead, Ms. Brewster-Medina aspires to continue expanding her professional network while increasing her contributions through volunteer work and community engagement.
