David J. Beinetti, AIA, principal, former president and former chief executive officer at SWBR Architecture, Engineering and Landscape Architecture DPC (SWBR), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in architecture.
With 45 years of architecture experience to his credit, Mr. Beinetti has excelled in the field of architecture and project management. He began his career at the predecessor firm of Starks Wurzer Patterson Romeo Architects PC in April 1979 as an architectural intern and project designer. Over the years, he has focused on design excellence, client relationship management, project design delivery, and construction delivery, contributing significantly to the firm’s success and reputation in the industry. Currently serving as a principal of the firm, he assists with client relations, community and government relations, marketing strategy, and business development.
Mr. Beinetti served as the president and chief executive officer of SWBR from April 1998 to May 2017. Under his team’s leadership, SWBR excelled as an award-winning architectural practice known for its expertise in sustainability, education, housing, health, science and technology, and corporate, industrial, and municipal design. He has also been active with SWBR’s Board of Directors, serving as chairman of the board from 2017 to 2019. In this role, he worked closely with the new president, providing guidance and support.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Beinetti pursued an education at Syracuse University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1975. He continued his academic efforts with special study at the Architectural Association in London in 1973. Additionally, he is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is licensed to practice in New York state.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field of architecture, Mr. Beinetti has actively participated in various civic activities. He has contributed to the community as a board member for the Upstate New York Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties since 2018 and the DBIA Liberty Northeast Region since 2015. He has also served as a board member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Rochester since 2014 and has co-chaired development for the Monroe Community College Foundation Inc. since 2014.
Additionally, Mr. Beinetti has been a Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Inc. board member since 2012. He has been involved with the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation since 1996, serving as past board chair and executive committee member. From 1992 to 2012, he was a board member of His Branches Inc. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Beinetti has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He was recognized as a Rochester Business ICON by the Rochester Business Journal in 2022 and was presented with the Medal of Distinction by the Rochester Chapter AIA in the same year. Additionally, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Builders Exchange of Rochester in 2022.
In 2020, Mr. Beinetti was honored with the New York State American Institute of Architects Frederic Schwartz Community Development Award. Earlier in his career, he was nominated for the Small Businessperson of the Year by the Small Business Council in 2011 and a finalist for the Small Business Council Businessperson of the Year Award in 2002 and 2009.
Mr. Beinetti attributes his success to his Christian faith, love of God and fellow man, leading him to a serving leader mindset that prioritizes other people’s and organizations’ needs, as well as maintaining humility, excellence, and integrity. His family’s background influenced his involvement in the field of architecture. Both his brother and father were educated in engineering. His father rose to the rank of corporate president in the telephone industry. Mentors have been essential throughout his career to inspire and guide him, motivating him to give back and help other young people interested in architecture. Looking ahead, he plans to transition in the coming years and continue to teach and mentor, coach soccer, serve the community and his church on boards and work with nonprofits.
