Todd Mather, Owner and Principal Architect at Todd Gordon Mather Architect, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Architecture.

Mr. Mather has established himself as a leading expert in residential building design, demonstrating a commitment to architectural excellence and client satisfaction throughout his more than 30-year tenure. As the owner and principal architect of Todd Gordon Mather Architect since 2015, Mr. Mather has built a reputation for designing custom residences that reflect the unique personalities and needs of his clients.

Based in Tahoe City, California, Mr. Mather manages every aspect of his firm’s operations, from initial client consultations and developing project schedules to collaborating with his drafter and daughter, who leads 3D modeling efforts from San Diego, California. Additionally, Mr. Mather coordinates with county officials, structural engineers, and contractors across five counties and two states.

Mr. Mather’s approach emphasizes patience, attentive listening and a refusal to impose generic solutions, ensuring each home is tailored to its occupants. While the majority of his work centers on new home designs, remodels and additions, a small portion involves commercial tenant improvements, typically undertaken for friends. Mr. Mather’s expertise also extends to conceptual design for subdivisions, primarily in Colorado, where he provides schematic designs for select projects.

Among Mr. Mather’s most significant achievements was the creation of an innovative A-frame residence for a client’s son. Addressing common deficiencies found in traditional A-frame designs, his solution garnered local, regional and international recognition, including honors from Dwell Magazine, and led to the founding of A-Frame Rising. Through this venture, Mr. Mather offers three versions of the award-winning A-frame design and has sold 40 plans over the past few years.

Before launching his own firm, Mr. Mather served as an architect at Walton Architecture in Lake Tahoe from 2013 to 2015. In this role, he contributed to high-profile projects such as “4784 North Lake Boulevard” and the “Kirkwood Cabin,” further refining his skills in residential architecture. Earlier, Mr. Mather was an architect with Elliott Workgroup in Park City, Utah, between 2006 and 2007, where he participated in projects that were later featured in publications like Park City Magazine.

Mr. Mather’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in architectural studies from the University of Utah and a Master of Architecture from the graduate school of architecture on campus. He credits his academic training with providing a strong foundation for his professional achievements and enabling him to approach each project with technical rigor and creative insight. In addition to his formal education, Mr. Mather is recognized as a licensed architect by the states of California, Hawaii, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. He also holds certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

A dedicated member of the architectural community, Mr. Mather holds memberships with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, the American Institute of Architects and the Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe. Beyond his professional pursuits, he has been civically engaged as the chair of the Tahoe Basin Design Review Committee since 2015. Through A-Frame Rising, he supports a scholarship fund for high school students interested in architecture, construction or design. Furthermore, Mr. Mather is a donor to the Joy Music Festival.

Mr. Mather’s work has been widely recognized in industry publications, including Design+Build in 2012, Utah Style & Design in 2015, Lake Tahoe Home in 2016, Outdoor Living and SF Gate in 2017, and Mountain Living in 2020. His project “Phoenix Rising” earned Best New Residence from the Contractors Association of Truckee Tahoe in 2019.

Mr. Mather maintains clients across North America, including New Hampshire, British Columbia, and several East Coast and Midwest states. He attributes his success to fortunate opportunities and meaningful collaborations throughout his career. Mr. Mather’s personable nature has distinguished him within the field, with clients often seeking his services after parting ways with other architects who failed to listen or adapt to their needs.
