He also served as vice president and principal at BGR Group from 2013 to 2018, where he developed and implemented lobbying strategies for health care clients. Earlier in his career, he was the chief health counsel at Government Acquisitions Inc. from 2004 to 2013, where he advised on health care acquisitions and policy compliance. He has also maintained his involvement with the Knights of Columbus, demonstrating his commitment to civic engagement. Beyond his professional life, he enjoys spending time with his daughters, playing golf and pickleball, and reading about history.
Mr. Long’s involvement in his profession stems from his longstanding interest in geopolitics. Growing up in a household where his father served in the Air Force, political discourse was a regular topic of discussion. Constant updates on world affairs piqued his curiosity, leading him to develop a keen interest in the subject. Witnessing his father’s 26-year service to the country instilled a deep sense of patriotism, further fueling his desire to study geopolitical issues.
Throughout his career, Mr. Long has made significant contributions to Food and Drug Administration reform and reauthorization acts, ensuring that the agency continues to facilitate the delivery of innovative solutions to patients. A standout moment in his career was assisting the then-minority leader in leading the Healthy Future Task Force for the Republican Party. In this role, he demonstrated his expertise by helping to develop a comprehensive agenda for the health care sector in preparation for the Republican Party to take over the majority in 2023.
Mr. Long views success not as where he ends up personally in his career but through each task, project, or activity he has been given, focusing on the immediate goals. He notes that in his line of work, there are many tasks, and if you start thinking too far ahead about where you want to be, you will not accomplish what you need to do right now.
Looking ahead, Mr. Long is dedicated to his involvement in policy development, specifically in health care, guiding the country toward a better and sustainable path. He aims to foster an environment that promotes innovation to alleviate the burden of cancer on individuals and society. He advises aspiring professionals that opportunities come in all shapes and sizes, and it is essential to make the most of every opportunity, emphasizing to “work as if people are watching because they are.”
