With a decades-spanning career that includes more than 20 years in the private sector and 25 years of government service, Mr. Chen has held the position of executive director at the Dania Beach Community Redevelopment Agency since 2020. Prior to this, he contributed for five years each as the economic and business development manager for the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, president of Urban Development and Mobility Solutions, and director of urban development for the city of Tampa. Mr. Chen shifted from the private sector to municipal government as the director of development services for the village of Oak Park in 1999. He has built a reputation for utilizing his for-profit experience to improve collaboration between private corporations and local government. Investors and real estate developers have praised Mr. Chen for offering a level of expertise and attention to detail rarely seen in the public sector.
Mr. Chen’s early professional life includes working for Corporex Companies as vice president, Japan Development & Construction Co. as director and senior vice president, and Osborn Engineering as vice president. He created a foundation for his success by obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisville in 1973. Mr. Chen subsequently earned a Master of Science in quality management from the University of Miami in 1999. He has furthered his professional development with continued learning, completing certification in economic development practice and management from The University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute in 2019.
Outside of his primary vocation, Mr. Chen enjoys fishing, word games, puzzles, and gardening. Looking to the future, he is committed to continuing to create opportunities for people in his community. Mr. Chen has embraced mentorship and hopes to raise the standard of living for everyone he serves.
