Shreya K. Kanodia, PhD, Associate Vice President for Programs for Infrastructure and Planning at MD Anderson Cancer Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care and research.
Dr. Kanodia has established herself in the field of health care and research, currently excelling as the Vice President for Programs, Infrastructure, and Planning at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a role she has held since 2021. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing the National Cancer Institute Designation for MD Anderson Cancer Center, a laboratory bay structure that provides services to the research community. She also oversees a team of science and technology illustrators that has helped the faculty launch a multi-million-dollar grant.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kanodia has held several prominent positions. Since 2021, she has served as associate vice president for programs, infrastructure, and planning at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Prior to this, she was the deputy director of administration at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center from 2020 to 2021 and the associate director of administration and department business officer at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center from 2018 to 2020. From 2017 to 2021, she held the role of executive director of cancer research at UC San Diego.
Dr. Kanodia’s tenure at Cedars-Sinai included roles such as executive director of the Research & Cancer Institute and associate director of administration from 2016 to 2017, academic research director of the Research & Cancer Institute, and associate director of administration from 2012 to 2017, and assistant professor and director of grants development from 2012 to 2017. Additionally, she co-owned and directed business development at Advanced Microdevices Pvt. Ltd. mdi from 2009 to 2014, served as interim associate director of administration and chief administrative officer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa from 2011 to 2012, and director of the grants management office at the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center from 2010 to 2012. Earlier in her career, she worked as a technical writer and freelance researcher in 2010, and as a research associate and senior research associate at USC-Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center from 2006 to 2010. She began her career as a graduate research assistant at UT-MD Anderson Cancer Center from 1999 to 2005.
Laying a solid foundation for her future success, Dr. Kanodia earned a Bachelor of Technology Honors in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1999 and a PhD in Immunology and Cancer Biology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2005. She is a member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Association for Cancer Research, the Association of Cancer Executives, the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), the Association of American Cancer Institutes, the Association of Cancer Center Administrators, and the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP). Additionally, she has been a presenter at various international conferences. In light of her impressive achievements, she received the Fellow Hurgen’s Children Library Best Fellowship, the Mason of Glory Fellowship, a College Sciences Foundation Fellowship, and the National Institutes of Health Travel Awards from the International Papillomavirus Society.
Dr. Kanodia takes great pride in driving organizational transformation and steering management utilizing collaborative processes. She attributes her success to perseverance, flexibility, and humility. She emphasizes the importance of being open to feedback and acknowledging the limitations of one’s knowledge. She also highlights the significance of understanding what you bring to the table rather than assuming you have all the answers. In addition to her own efforts, she is profoundly grateful for the mentorship she has received, crediting her mentors for their support and guidance in making pivotal decisions. In the coming years, she aims to finalize her organizational work with Anderson. She is currently developing several initiatives that she believes will significantly benefit the organization. She also aspires to expand her horizons beyond her current field of expertise to explore new areas and make impactful contributions beyond her established domain.
