With over four and a half decades of experience, Dr. Cooke has built a successful career in consulting, specializing in government business operations. He currently serves as the chief executive officer and president of ASI Government, a position he has held since 2017. He has also been the president of the consulting division at ASI Government since 2013. ASI Government is a consulting firm that provides innovative solutions and expert guidance to federal agencies, helping them improve operations, enhance performance, and achieve their strategic objectives. In these roles, he engages with senior government officials, particularly those overseeing government investments and spending, while delegating internal management responsibilities to a trusted colleague to focus on external interactions. His experience also includes serving as vice president at SRA International from 1998 to 2013 and as a principal and senior principal at the same company from 1992 to 1998. Earlier in his career, he was a senior economist at the Center for Naval Analyses from 1985 to 1991 and an assistant professor of economics at Rice University from 1979 to 1984.
Additionally, Dr. Cooke actively contributes his time as vice chair for finance at the American Council for Technology and the Industry Advisory Council, serves on the board of advisers for the National Contract Management Association, sits on the board of directors for the Professional Services Council, and is a member of the Acquisition Management Council at the Intelligence and National Security Alliance. In light of his impressive undertakings, he was honored with the Collaboration Award from ACT-IAC in 2021 and named to the Fed 100 by FCW in 2020.
Dr. Cooke laid a solid educational foundation with a Bachelor of Science in economics from George Mason University in 1975, followed by a Master of Arts and a PhD in economics from The Johns Hopkins University, completing his doctoral studies in 1979. Reflecting on his path, he previously served as vice president at SRA International, a federal government contracting service, where he gained extensive experience managing both commercial and government business operations. In February 2017, he acquired 85% ownership of ASI Government, becoming the majority owner after serving as chief executive officer under its previous ownership. He takes great pride in the transformation he has led at ASI Government over the past seven years. Under his leadership, the company has experienced significant growth and developed a dynamic operational environment, and now boasts a highly skilled team and a roster of esteemed clients.
Dr. Cooke attributes his success to the valuable relationships he has cultivated with mentors throughout his career, as well as actively seeking guidance, coaching, and support from experienced individuals.
