As the founder of Johnson Financial Group, he has centered the firm’s focus on having deeper, more meaningful conversations with clients—discussions that other advisers often overlook. They want to understand the “why” before addressing the “how.” As a holistic financial planner, he and his team engage in broader discussions with clients to uncover their underlying motivations and objectives before devising strategies to achieve those goals. Mr. Johnson has been a distinguished financial services professional with New York Life since 1981. He has been a member of the New York Life’s Advisory Board of Directors since 2011 and currently serves as president. His extensive industry involvement includes serving as a board member of the Foundation Board of Directors of The American College of Financial Services from 2011 to 2022, including one term as the last board chairman. He currently serves as vice chair of the President’s Advisory Council at The American College of Financial Services. He is also affiliated with Finseca (Financial Security for All) and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. (NAIFA). He currently serves as vice chairman of The East Texas Crisis Center. From 2016 to 2019, he served as a board member of the Bullard Educational Foundation. Mr. Johnson is also a past president of the East Texas Estate Planning Council in Tyler. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he contributes to his community as the music director at Grace Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas.
In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Johnson was awarded the Top 50 Worldwide recognition by New York Life. Laying a solid educational foundation for these successes, he earned a Master of Science in financial services from The American College of Financial Services in King of Prussia in 1993. His certifications include Certified Advisor of Philanthropy®, Certified Financial Planner®, Chartered Life Underwriter®, and Chartered Financial Consultant®. He is a believer in lifelong learning. He has also set a personal goal to increase his mentoring to adults and share his knowledge through public speaking on the importance of holistic financial planning.
