Robert M. Schoen, Principal Owner at Schoen& Co. and Financial Advisor at Schoen Financial Advisors, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Accounting and Finance.
Attributing more than four decades to his success in finance, Mr. Schoen has established himself as an expert in the field. In 1985, after a successful tenure at KPMG, he became the principal owner of Schoen & Co. in Goodyear, Arizona. Overseeing his firm has allowed him to realize his vision of working closely with small businesses and their families. Mr. Schoen grew the company to include up to 15 staff members at its peak and even partnered with another professional for a time before parting ways due to differing business philosophies. Throughout this period, Mr. Schoen has distinguished himself by engaging deeply with clients, helping them achieve their goals and prioritizing proactive service over volume.
Since 1988, Mr. Schoen has also served as a financial advisor at Schoen Financial Advisors in Goodyear. For over 35 years in this role, he has continued to build on his reputation for excellence by maintaining long-term relationships with clients across generations. His commitment to quality is evident in his perfectionist approach, as Mr. Schoen always prefers dedicating ample time to ensure thorough results rather than delegating tasks without close supervision.
Mr. Schoen’s time at KPMG, which was then the largest accounting firm in the world, allowed him to work in the audit department and gain valuable exposure to large corporate clients. However, he found that the scale of these organizations limited his ability to form meaningful connections or influence outcomes directly. Seeking greater engagement with clients and a more hands-on approach, Mr. Schoen accepted a position as the head of the audit group at McGraw Edison for one year before transitioning to work with smaller startup firms. These companies ranged up to nearly $100 million in annual revenue and provided opportunities for him to deliver consulting, tax planning, and tax return services tailored to both businesses and their owners.
Before working in the accounting industry, Mr. Schoen dedicated time to serving in the Chicago National Guard from 1969 to 1975. This period instilled discipline and a sense of duty that would inform his approach to both business and client relationships throughout his life. During his service, Mr. Schoen earned a Bachelor of Arts in accountancy from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, in 1973.
Mr. Schoen holds two prestigious credentials: certified public accountant and certified financial planner from the College for Financial Planning, both acquired in 1988. These designations reflect not only technical mastery but also a commitment to ongoing education, a value he continues to uphold through annual coursework and self-directed study well beyond formal requirements. Aside from his education, Mr. Schoen’s expertise is further recognized through active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which has enabled him to remain current with industry developments while fostering connections with individuals who share his dedication to ethical standards and lifelong learning.
Throughout his career, Mr. Schoen has navigated numerous challenges common among small business owners, such as staffing fluctuations and managing client portfolios of varying sizes. He recalls that collecting payments from larger clients was generally easier than from smaller ones who sometimes struggled financially, a reality that shaped his approach to client selection and service delivery.
Among Mr. Schoen’s most notable achievements has been his longevity in business ownership and the successful expansion of his enterprise. He takes particular pride in bringing his sons into the firm while maintaining consistent success over decades marked by industry change and economic cycles. Many clients have prospered under Mr. Schoen’s guidance, some growing significantly though not achieving widespread notoriety, and he considers his enduring presence and resilience within the field as key accomplishments.
Beyond technical proficiency, Mr. Schoen attributes much of his success to genuine enjoyment of his work, meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to building trust-based relationships with clients. He believes that forming friendships early on enables more effective support throughout each client’s financial journey. Moreover, Mr. Schoen credits family as a central pillar of his achievement.
Looking ahead, Mr. Schoen’s goal is to continue building his financial advisory practice so he can assist as many clients as possible who truly need financial support. He views his firm as an educational organization dedicated to guiding clients from all walks of life toward financial security and a comfortable retirement. Through decades of service marked by expertise, integrity and genuine care for others’ success, Mr. Schoen stands as a model of leadership within accounting and financial advising, both for peers within the profession and for future generations inspired by his example.
