With decades of experience in the legal and hospitality sectors to her credit, Ms. Early has excelled as the executive director of the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association since 2007. Additionally utilizing her expertise with nonprofit organizations, policy analysis, event planning, government, and zoning, Ms. Early’s regular communication with the Greater New Orleans Hotel & Lodging Association’s attorney ensures that she offers informed perspectives on various situations.
A native of New Orleans, Ms. Early found success in a number of previous roles with the City of New Orleans from 1990 to 2002. As city attorney and deputy city attorney, she was pivotal in resolving numerous cases without settlements or judgments and streamlining the city’s legal processes. Her efforts in revamping the workers’ compensation division through an outside contract led to remarkable improvements as well. Furthermore, Ms. Early’s post as attorney for the city council and mayor allowed her to effectively represent their interests while managing the law department.
Ms. Early’s professional endeavors are further enriched by her membership as the state chair of the International Municipal Lawyers Association in 2000, an affiliation that underscores her dedication to advancing municipal law and policy. Beyond her primary responsibilities, she is involved with civic-minded organizations such as the Hospitality Education Foundation and the foundation board of Delgado Community College. Ms. Early was also active as a lobbyist early in her career, which additionally demonstrated her commitment to achieving her goals and affecting change.
To support her ambitions in her respective fields, Ms. Early initially pursued an education at Loyola University, from which she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1972. She subsequently concluded her studies at the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 1982, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. She was encouraged to become a lawyer by her father, as he identified her inquisitive nature and helped her overcome her doubts about her potential career path and financial stability. Adopting a number of critical skills during her formal academic efforts, Ms. Early has attributed her success to her inherent abilities as a good listener and communicator.
As a testament to her stellar achievements, Ms. Early was recognized as one of the 25 Most Influential People in Hospitality and Tourism in 2021. She is also proud of having the opportunity to help others as a mentor, as she believes her moral purpose in life is to do whatever she can to aid those who want to meet their full potential. Outside of her work in hospitality and the law, Ms. Early is a devoted wife and loving mother to her wonderful son, John-Michael III.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Early is committed to prioritizing quality time with her husband while focusing on personal pursuits that are important to her. As she contemplates the next steps in her career, she aims to find a balance that allows her to continue her career while dedicating more time to her crucial family relationships. Additionally, Ms. Early is considering re-engaging in charitable works in the coming years.
