Mr. Winder is lauded for his contributions to the nonprofit sector as a senior strategist and principal at Collective Struggle in Oakland, California. Collective Struggle Praxis Advisory was established to provide transformation strategies for power-sharing in organizational leadership. Since 2023, he has been instrumental in assisting social justice organizations in aligning their values, practices, and culture with essential principles and strategies. His work involves supporting executive leaders, directors and co-directors in establishing a solid team foundation and providing guidance on co-leadership. Among other responsibilities, Mr. Winder is a strategist and advisor in the LGBTQ+ youth sector, is engaged in various education justice and racial justice initiatives, and teaches a course on shared leadership.
Since joining the organization, Mr. Winder has demonstrated his commitment to social justice in various capacities. He has been a contributor and senior advisor for its California Black Leadership Project since 2023. Additionally, he has been instrumental as a contributor, senior advisor and executive mentor for its Alliance for Educational Justice since 2024. Mr. Winder’s role as an executive mentor and strategic advisor for its Californians For Justice program and as a contributor and interim co-director of its Dignity in Schools Campaign California program further underscores his dedication to the organization.
Before being acquired by Collective Struggle, Mr. Winder gained expertise as the interim director at Alliance for Educational Justice from 2023 to 2024. He also enjoyed a significant tenure with GSA Network from 2008 to 2022, beginning as an administrative manager. Promoted to racial and economic justice manager, he then became a senior manager of racial and economic justice programs and as the co-executive director. Earlier in his career, Mr. Winder held various positions at Zipcar in administration and accounts payable between 2004 and 2008. He was also the anti-racism initiative coordinator at the Gay-Straight Alliance Network in 2001.
Hailing from South Korea, Mr. Winder spent his early years in an orphanage before landing in California, where he overcame various challenges. Following high school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in change theory and globalization from New York University Gallatin in 2007. He also received certification through the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Winder is a member and board of directors of Californians for Justice. He is also on the steering committee for the People’s Think Tank for Education Justice.
Mr. Winder received a Service Award from GSA Network for his success. He credits his accomplishments to his strong ability to connect with others. He also notes his adaptability and willingness to embrace change as crucial to his success. Mr. Winder has learned to remain flexible and not become too attached to any one particular idea, even if it is initially his own.
Excited for future opportunities, Mr. Winder is eager to develop a new social theory that will impact technology and the privilege or oppression in others’ lives. Leveraging his extensive background in social theory and expertise at NYU, he remains steadfast about addressing these critical societal matters. His ultimate goal is to continue his significant work for years to come.
