Gregory William Furseth, MBA, senior vice president and chief fiduciary officer at TrustBank, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in finance.
With nearly four decades of experience, Mr. Furseth has built a successful career in finance, specializing in fiduciary tax. He currently serves as senior vice president and chief fiduciary officer at TrustBank, a role he has held since 2013. His prior experience includes senior trust officer at The Northern Trust Company from 2004 to 2012, senior estate administrator at Northern Trust Bank NA from 1996 to 2004, financial management officer from 1989 to 1995, and senior tax analyst from 1987 to 1989 at Northern Trust Bank Arizona. He laid a strong educational foundation, earning a Bachelor of Science in finance and accounting from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in 1987 and a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Phoenix in 1993. He further pursued an associate of science in theology from the Kino Catechetical Institute in 2017. He is also a certified public accountant and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and the United Latino Students Association.
Mr. Furseth also dedicates his time to various community roles, including board president of East Valley Adult Services Foundation since 2015, chairman of the parish finance council, and volunteer work at St. Vincent de Paul. He plans to continue teaching RCIA classes, a comprehensive nine-month program for adults joining the church. His philanthropy focuses on aiding the working poor and supporting families, ensuring dignity for those who strive. Additionally, he has chaired the charitable development committee, assisting small organizations with fundraising and supporting scholarships and aid for women in need.
Reflecting on his path, Mr. Furseth’s expertise began with a solid foundation in tax and corporate finance, focusing on treasury management and balance sheet oversight. Early in his career at Northern Trust, he emphasized financial management over corporate accounting, applying his skills as a financial officer for a trust company, overseeing account accuracy, loan accounting, and fee structures. In 1989, he joined Northern Trust Bank Arizona, quickly advancing to officer during its turnaround from a $1.2 million loss to a $2 million profit by 1991, growing assets from $800 million to $12 billion. He gained strategic management insights from experienced mentors and contributed to internal mergers, expanding his financial expertise. He takes pride in his rise through Northern Trust, achieving national recognition and building a company that supports nearly 30 employees and their families. He attributes his success to perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth.
In the coming years, Mr. Furseth aims to travel and explore new destinations. He is currently beginning the process of finding his replacement, which may take some time. While he is not interested in consulting, he is looking to make adjustments to his daily routine and intends to gradually reduce his current professional commitments in order to dedicate more time to engage more deeply with his faith and contribute more actively to the Catholic community. He also aspires to transition into an off-counsel advisory role, contributing his expertise to strategic projects without the routine responsibilities of accounting or auditing. He recently completed a highly regarded FDIC audit and seeks to focus on impactful advisory work. In his community, he serves as chairman of the parish finance council and plans to continue teaching and supporting charitable efforts, including the Diocesan Charity & Development Appeal, aiming to make a positive difference in the lives of others even if not physically present.
