Mr. Odum is an experienced health care professional specializing in caring for individuals with disabilities. As the director of the National Rehabilitation Information Center (NARIC), he has been making a significant impact for over 35 years. Initially joining the NARIC in 1979, he later returned to the organization in 1988 to serve in his present position. Inspired by a significant accident in 1974 when he suffered a broken neck from a driving accident, Mr. Odum began dedicating his time to helping others with spinal cord injuries. Five years later, after earning two undergraduate degrees, he was hired by NARIC.

In addition to his role at the NARIC, Mr. Odum has been the director of HeiTech Services Inc., which has assisted the federal government in achieving critical missions and goals via various programs since 2015. Acquired by HeiTech in 2000, he also excelled as the company’s vice president from 2008 to 2015. Throughout his tenure, he has directed a large records management project with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and various aspects of library and information center services, including information and referral services, knowledge translation initiatives, collection development and more, and ensuring quality assurance regarding publications and product outputs. Besides these work-related ventures, Mr. Odum was the president of a national consumer organization and was the director of the oldest and largest national consumer organization for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Highly educated, Mr. Odum earned a master’s degree in business management from the University of Maryland in 2001. Active in his professional community, he has held various leading roles. Most notably, he is a past president of the board of directors for the National Spinal Cord Injury Association. Among numerous memorable moments throughout his career, Mr. Odum was present when President George Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) at the White House in 1990. He was also critical in establishing the first Disabled Students Services Office while a member of the Student Legislature at the University of Maryland in College Park in 1978.
