Dr. Peter Flores III, EdD, founder and principal consultant at Praxis Lead Equity LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in academic administration.
With decades of experience, Dr. Flores has built a successful career in consulting and education, specializing in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). He currently excels in various roles, including founder and principal consultant of Praxis Lead Equity LLC and senior associate at Praxis Lead Equity Consulting LLC in Southern California, both since 2020, as well as director of equity at the Center for Leadership Equity & Research Inc. (CLEAR) since 2010. His work includes establishing DEI-related contracts with school districts, self-study on DEI topics, and collaboration with organizations such as the Center for Culturally Proficient Educational Practice. His experience also includes roles as director of student services and director at Santa Maria Joint Union High School District from 2010 to 2021, assistant principal at Santa Maria High School from 2010 to 2015, assistant principal at Flamson Middle School from 2009 to 2010, and dean of students at Philips Freedom Community School from 2008 to 2009. Earlier in his career, he was a teacher and dean at Soledad High School, NJROTC instructor at Everett Alvarez High School, and served as a command master chief (E9) in the U.S. Navy from 1979 to 2004.
Also contributing to the field through his writing, Dr. Flores authored “Leading from the Strawberry Fields: Transformative Leadership in Santa Maria” for ACSA Leadership Magazine and “Overcoming Barriers to Change” for the same publication, and co-authored various peer-reviewed articles. Additionally, he has actively participated as a board member for Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, vice commander of the American GI Forum for California, and senior associate with the Center for Culturally Proficient Educational Practice. He also dedicates time to St. Luke’s Parish and his local chapter of the American GI Forum. In light of his impressive undertakings contributions, he been honored with the Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, and three Navy Achievement Medals. He holds both Surface Warfare and Aviation Warfare qualifications and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal by the Department of Defense, alongside various service unit awards. His achievements also include honors as a top graduate at the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, a nomination for Teacher of the Year with the Memorial Teaching Excellence Award in 2007, and a finalist position for Bay Area Teacher of the Year that same year.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Flores earned an Associate of Arts in business administration and management from West Hills College Lemoore in 1985, a Bachelor of Science in liberal arts and sciences from Excelsior University in 2004, and a Master of Arts in education from Ashford University in 2013. He also completed the CODEL Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and Administration in 2019, and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from California State University, Fresno in 2020. He holds a full-time special subjects teaching credential in adult education from CSU Long Beach, a California ROTC teaching credential, and a Naval Science Instructor certification from the U.S. Navy. Additionally, he completed the administrator training program at the Monterey County Office of Education and passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test in 2003.
Dr. Flores attributes his success to the influence of his parents, who instilled core values and integrity that have guided his career. In the coming years, he has a variety of goals, aiming to expand his company, become executive director of the Center for Culturally Proficient Educational Practice, write a book on educational equity and access, establish a committee, and create a nonprofit to support underserved students in attending college. His advice to aspiring professionals is to stay true to your core values but be flexible to learn and adapt.
