Dana E. Moore, MPH, CPH, executive director at California Utilities Emergency Association, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in public health.
With over two decades of experience, Ms. Moore has built a distinguished career in public health, specializing in governmental public health and strategic planning. Since 2024, she has served as advisory council member at Harvard Business Review, public sector research council member at the Public Sector Network, and executive director at the California Utilities Emergency Association. Her prior roles include chief of medical information breach and privacy law oversight in 2024 and state registrar, chief data officer at the California Department of Public Health from 2021 to 2024. She was assistant deputy director for the Center for Health Statistics and Informatics from 2019 to 2021 and assistant deputy director, acting deputy director, and tribal liaison at the Office of Health Equity from 2018 to 2019.
Ms. Moore also held positions as health systems strategist from 2014 to 2018, training coordinator and emergency planning analyst from 2010 to 2014, and intern at the California Department of Health Care Services in 2012 and the California Medical Association in 2011. She also served as senior health program planner at the San Francisco Department of Public Health from 2008 to 2010, region IV California Health Alert Network coordinator from 2005 to 2007, and health program supervisor at the County of Yolo from 2004 to 2008. Other roles include assistant project coordinator at NHS in 2003 and research and teaching assistant at the University of California, Davis in 2003. Laying a solid educational foundation, she earned a Bachelor of Science in biopsychology and cultural anthropology from the University of California, Davis in 2004, a Master of Public Health in health policy and administration from the University of California, Berkeley in 2012, and was certified in public health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners in 2021.
Ms. Moore is an active board member for Women in Leadership at the University of San Francisco and is affiliated with the National Board of Public Health Examiners, Haas Health Care Association, Kappa Alpha Theta, Psi Chi, and Order of Omega. In light of her impressive undertakings, she was named one of America’s Top 25 Female Chief Data Officers in 2024 and received the National Association of County and City Health Officials Award in 2010, along with the Team Leadership Award. Reflecting on her path, after returning to the US, she worked with a local health department in Loyola, California, where she became involved in bioterrorism, public health preparedness, and pandemic response. Her efforts united diverse stakeholders toward a common goal of serving the community, particularly through training for marginalized populations.
Ms. Moore takes great pride in establishing California’s first gender and health equity program within the Department of Public Health. She played a key role in developing guidelines to promote safe and healthy infant and young child feeding during emergencies. Additionally, she was the first health registrar in California to grant tribal nations access to vital statistics and records data. She attributes her success to the invaluable mentorship she received, particularly from women, which has inspired her to actively support and empower other women, especially mothers and caregivers.
