With over four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Dunlap has established a successful career in financial services. Since 1999, he has excelled as the founder and chief executive officer of Dunlap & Associates Wealth Management, where he oversees a team of three advisers and three staff members, serving over 400 families and managing $195 million in assets. His experience also includes regional director of financial planning at Lincoln Financial Advisors from 1996 to 1999, vice president of investments at Morgan Stanley from 1993 to 1995, and partner and vice president of investments at William R. Hough & Company from 1984 to 1993. Additionally, he has worked as a professional pianist for more than 50 years, performing in various piano bars and at over 100 wedding receptions. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from St. John Fisher University in 1976, a Master of Business Administration in marketing from the University of South Florida in 1980, and certifications as a certified financial planner and an accredited investment fiduciary.
Mr. Dunlap is also a member of the Financial Planning Association and actively supports various charities, including local food banks, through sponsorships and donations. Additionally, his firm has been the largest contributor to a local charity for the past three years, providing holiday pies to families and clients who bring donations. Reflecting on his path, in 1984, he ventured into the financial industry, gaining invaluable experience as the regional director of financial planning for Lincoln Financial Advisors in Atlanta, overseeing operations for the entire state of Georgia. However, when Lincoln and Cigna merged on a national scale, his position was made redundant, prompting him to explore new opportunities. He found a brokerage firm that allowed him to conduct his business independently while running his own firm, which became the catalyst for establishing his company.
In relation to his musical pursuits, Mr. Dunlap was raised in a musical family, with his mother as a professional singer and his father as a skilled pianist. At just 16 years old, he showcased his talent at Carnegie Hall and later played the piano for The 5th Dimension at a dinner theater in Rochester, accompanied Marilyn McCoo, and worked with Milton Berle. He attributes his success to the exceptional way his firm connects with its clients. Their approach fosters strong client loyalty, leading to numerous referrals from satisfied clients to their friends and family. Looking to the future, he has established a succession plan this year to formalize the transition, ensuring the firm’s continued success, with his partner poised to take over the business in the near future.
