With two decades of experience, Mr. Scott has built a distinguished career in occupational health and safety. He currently serves as a safety manager with the U.S. Department of Defense, a role he has held since 2023, and as an entrepreneur with CMS4k, which he founded in 2013. His responsibilities include developing, organizing, executing, and assessing key components of the U.S. Army Garrison Safety Program. This encompasses the OSHA Compliance Program, Radiation Safety Program, Ammunition and Explosives Program, and various safety training programs.His experience also includes serving as manager of occupational safety and health with the U.S. Navy from 2020 to 2023, director of safety with the U.S. Marine Corps from 2016 to 2020, and safety director with the U.S. Army from 2015 to 2016. He also held positions as safety specialist with the U.S. Army from 2014 to 2015, safety manager with the U.S. Army from 2011 to 2014, and safety manager with the U.S. Marine Corps from 2008 to 2011.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Scott served as team leader with the U.S. Marine Corps from 2006 to 2008, safety specialist from 2005 to 2006, supply technician from 2004 to 2005, and operations manager with the USO from 2003 to 2004. He was also the Okinawa area sales manager for Japan Enhanced Network Systems from 2001 to 2003. His military career spanned 20 years, during which he served as gunnery sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1980 to 2000 before retiring in 2000. Laying a strong educational foundation, he has completed a variety of courses, including mathematics at Northern Virginia Community College, Japanese language and literature at Palomar College and MiraCosta College, and sociology, Japanese language and literature, and computer science at the University of Maryland Global Campus. He earned an Associate of Applied Science in occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University in 2011, a Bachelor of Science in occupational safety and health from Columbia Southern University in 2012, and a Master of Business Administration in human resources management from Columbia Southern University in 2014.
Additionally, Mr. Scott holds numerous professional certifications, including the Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) from the Institute for Safety and Health Management, the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers, and Eastern Kentucky University, and Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He also holds the CP-12 Professional Certificate through ANSI. He is an active member of the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society, the American Society of Safety Professionals, and the Colonial Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, where he contributed to the publication “Slogan Has New Meaning After Near-Accident.”
He dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant before retiring. Following his retirement, he transitioned to the field of safety, where he has accumulated 21 years of experience in civilian service. Throughout his career, he has contributed to safety initiatives across the Marine Corps, Army, and Navy, holding key roles such as safety director, safety manager, and safety specialist. In light of his impressive undertakings, he has been honored with numerous awards, including the Civilian Service Commendation Medal, Commander’s Award for Civilian Service, Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal. Additionally, his military service has been recognized with the Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Mr. Scott attributes his success to his drive and determination to make incremental improvements every single day.
