John M. Weberg

Title: Medical Affairs Executive
Company: Self-Employed
Location: Reno, Nevada, United States

John M. Weberg, a self-employed medical affairs executive, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

Since 2023, Mr. Weberg has provided consulting services to various companies in the health care sphere, formulating strategies and analyzing data to develop evidence-based best practices for improving patient outcomes. He previously worked with notable companies such as VISX, Johnson and Johnson Vision and Abbott and played a key role in securing laser vision correction approval in 70 countries. His past efforts included creating continuing medical education programs for ophthalmologists and optometrists, reaching up to 1,500 practitioners per training event. These programs focused on optimizing  measurements, treatment algorithms, personal nomograms  for laser use in laser vision correction or  cataract surgery to achieve the best possible results for patients, and he is proud to have trained more than 10,000 physicians.

After earning a diploma in biomedical engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1990, Mr. Weberg began a career as a biomedical engineer for a hospital group in Northern Canada. During this time, he received a call from the dean of the British Columbia Institute of Technology, who had recommended him for a laser engineer position in Saudi Arabia. In 1992, he immigrated to Saudi Arabia to serve as the director of biomedical engineering for the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, overseeing the hospital’s refractive lasers. After gaining that experience, VISX sought him out, as he was one of few global experts with refractive surgery experience. He joined the company in 1995 as a field service engineer and within a year the manager of technical support and training, teaching early pioneers in laser vision correction. By 2003, he had risen to senior global marketing manager of VISX. In2004, VISX was purchased by Advanced Medical Optics at which time he became the director of marketing of VISX technologies before moving to the same position at Abbott. It was at this time He was asked by Abbott to create a post market study team in medical affairs. Once again rising through the company’s ranks, he became the global director of medical affairs in 2015, maintaining the position until 2017, at which point he began working for Johnson and Johnson Surgical Vision. Spending two years with Johnson and Johnson Vision, he left to pursue a chief commercial officer position at Clerio Vision Inc., followed by a vice president of medical affairs position at New World Medical. He began independent consulting in 2023, which allowed him the freedom to assist multiple companies and progress the health care field.

In addition to large-scale educational initiatives, Mr. Weberg has been involved in targeted, hands-on training programs. While working alongside medical doctors, he focused on educating physicians about the technical aspects of laser devices, such as programming, calculating personal nomograms, system calibration and troubleshooting for optimal outcomes. His training ensured that physicians could use the laser safely and effectively during surgeries, including understanding alarms and resolving issues that might arise during procedures. This enabled the doctors to focus on surgical techniques, including different techniques for removing epithelium for PRK or by using laser programming for transepithelial PRK etc.

Looking ahead, Mr. Weberg hopes to pass on his experiences to a younger generation. He remains passionate aboutsharing his knowledge and is open to any opportunities that may present themselves. As a recognized key opinion leader in the medical and technological fields, plans to continue leveraging data-driven insights from patient studies to refine techniques and enhance technological capabilities and education on best practices
