With nearly two decades of experience, Mr. Simmons has established a successful career in oil and gas, currently excelling as an associate at Lazard Inc., a position he has held since 2024. His experience also inludes senior engineering technician at SilverBow Resources from 2023 to 2024, NextEra Energy Inc. from 2022 to 2023, and Sheridan Production Company III LLC from 2017 to 2019. He also served as principal consultant at Halliburton from 2014 to 2017, senior engineering technician at Verdun Oil Company from 2007 to 2014, and held engineering technician roles at EP Energy and El Paso Energy. He is an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers, and has contributed to academic with the publication, “The Average Number of Real Zeros of a Random Trigonometric Polynomial” in Stochastic Analysis & Applications. Laying an educational foundation, he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Morehouse College.
Reflecting on his path, after completing his education, Mr. Simmons began his career at El Paso Energy as an engineering technician in the reserves group, specializing in reserve economics and supporting engineers with calculations for present value, free cash flow, and EBITDA. He managed credit facilities, quarterly reserves, and reserve reports. Following El Paso Energy’s acquisition by Kinder Morgan and the subsequent formation of EP Energy, he continued his work in reserve management. He later joined Halliburton’s subsidiary, Landmark, where he helped users optimize the Aries application, collaborated with the research and development team, and provided consulting services. This role included international travel to Tokyo, Japan, and Bangkok, Thailand, as well as teaching and consulting across the United States.
Mr. Simmons takes great pride running the entire reserves department at El Paso Energy during a period of significant turnover, during which he managed all processes, trained new engineers and technicians, and worked with a Six Sigma Black Belt to document essential procedures. Another career highlight was creating the first area database for gases during a trip to Tokyo, which contributed to significant investments in American assets. He attributes his success to his passion, determination and a strong work ethic. In the coming years, he aims to hone his skills and transition into an engineering-focused role and aspires to advance to the position of vice president, with an ultimate goal to become a director.
